I would recommend getting a refurbished Lenovo thinkpad, Dell Latitude or HP Elite book. These "professional grade" laptops are usually the easiest when it comes to compatability with Linux and they're cheap compared to new laptops and easy to repair yourself. Perfectly capable of doing most work based tasks.
However if you're doing anything graphics intensive for your work you'll need something newer and more powerful.
I intend to sell my macbook for a linux laptop, are there any good options?

Depends largely on your use case and where in the world you are. What will you be using it for?
Perhaps you shouldn't think so lowly of those capable of contemplating mysteries. Yes, prepackaged religions are often farcicle and used as a means of control and placation. But they hint at a core perrenial truth and the true spiritual practices do not teach copium but immersion by fire, "drowning in the seas of the unknown" essentially true spiritual practice teaches full awareness of all good and all bad "yin and the yang". No ignorance should be allowed. Granted you likely wont find this by going to your local house of worship, but there are those who have existed through time who have explored these concepts to great detail. I recommend starting with the works of Carl Jung and Aldous Huxley if you want the acedemic view. Alan watts is good for a bit more of an entertaining delivery.
You are pulling the right strings. Godspeed on your journey of life.
If you like Garuda, have you considered Nobara?
If you want to learn Arch, check out a distro called Arcos. It's very interesting to play around and learn.
If you want something that just works I recommend Fedora or a spin known as Nobara which is geared towards gaming and content creation.
All can easily be run with KDE 👍🏻
I hear you. It's easy to fall into this way of thinking when looking out at the world. Inevitably the majority of people will be "mid" people and if you have niche interests it is going to feel a bit lonely at times. But from my experience most people are good people with good intentions, it's just the "bad ones" are often the noisiest.
I recommend looking for social clubs or IRL meetups for the things that interest you. Once you have a good community of people with shared interests the world doesnt seem so dark.
Also, consider developing some form of spiritual practice, for example starting with meditation. Read spiritual/religious/philosophical books and develop a curiosity for the mysteries of life 😊 this is my strongest recommendation
I've stayed away from Ubuntu on desktop for many years. About five years ago it seemed really buggy and kept breaking on me, it could've also been my own failings at that time, but i've heard Ubuntu has got a lot better in the past year or two 👌🏼 but along with Debian, they're of course solid server setups
It's amazing what a bit of linux bootstrapping can do to old hardware 😎 i think that if more people realised this, and how user friendly Linux actually is these days, we would be able to massively reduce e-waste
No, I think there is a culling season on the rise.
Well well, anon thinks quite highly of themselves... I suppose you have it all figured out. Good luck to you, I hope you find the light 😅
https://www.whonix.org for the win!
I use KVM not Qubes option for the host, but Qubes is certainly prettier.
I've heard about whonix but never actually tried it. I'll have to look deeper, thanks.
If you wanted something lighter than Mint you could also try Lubuntu or Linux Lite, all three are good options for older hardware though 👍🏻 in my experience something usually breaks with Manjaro after a while... might just be me though 😂 your personal set-up sounds solid and practical 👌🏼
Yeah, I never got the hype around MX Linux 🤔 but I guess it works for many, so more power to them 😊
Mint is a solid choice for a "just works"/"beginner" distro 👌🏼 have you considered trying other distros or are you content with Mint?
As a privacy forward individual, which gnu/linux distribution do you prefer to use and why?
