Couldn't possibly have anything to do with the oodles of money printing that happened during covid right? Hahaha
Yeah a breakthrough or a re-thinking. I'm no AI expert but based on my understanding of LLMs, this is not what will get us to AGI. It's just n-dimensional regression or find the pattern in the data. And don't get me wrong, it works pretty well but we keep anthropormizing them, claiming they "know" or "hallucinate" or "remember". They do none of these things, much like my line of best fit through a chart does none of these things. It's a large equation for predicting the next word when giving other words as input. We need to be able to add to a model understanding but how we do that? No fucking clue.
I won't speak for nostr:nprofile1qqs2tkttddq55y5ht07gpun8y8yq2vrs3lhqq79mj58vgx90fyaknpgprdmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuam9wd6x2unwvf6xxtnrdakj7av6hxm but I'm of the same opinion because I don't really find AI useful for me. Code generation AI is trash, I'm much more efficient without it. And to ask it questions for researching a topic is also a waste of time because you don't know if it provided factual information, omitted something key or just flat out fabricated the response. I end up needed to fact check it anyway. I do like it for exploring some creative ideas, for example asking for ideas to start a project or something and using it as a launch pad from there. Or for summarizing an email or something I've written (I don't trust the summaries generated for text others have written). But I rarely ever do those things.
It's true that freedom of speech comes at the price of people being able to spread misinformation and say hurtful things. But that is a fair trade off compared to the alternative which is allowing a group of people the ability to dictate what can and can't be said. That power when wielded in the wrong hands has proven time and and time again throughout history to lead to authoritarianism, tyranny and suffering far greater than anything free speech can enable. And I completely disagree with you that an AGI ruler will make this better as they will be subject to the same biases or worse, biases we don't understand. Not to mention that we are very very far away from AGI.
When it comes to disinformation, the best cure against that is education. It's time we as a society stop outsourcing our thinking to others. We must take the time to continue our learning every day, only then can we maintain freedom of speech and combat misinformation. Not by letting a group of elites decide what is the Truth™
Because it's really not that interesting a topic. It's just money. The first few convos sure but after a while, it gets old.
I think the big hurdle is client support because AFAIK, there is nothing stopping a relay from running on clearnet and Tor using torrc as we speak.
Ah I see what you're saying. For sure the users matter, otherwise we're building things for nobody. On that note: if there was an easy to deploy and use relay, would you run one?
Coming from a genuine place right now: 1. What makes you think developers think they're the ones running shit. 2. What makes you think that they don't?
What would that look like? As I understand it, you could run a relay behind a hidden service right now. Do you mean that?
There is a protocol for syncing distributed databases called negentropy that does something similar to what you're describing. And although your solution works on paper, there are trade offs. 1. Relays become bloated as every relay needs a copy of every event making it harder for anyone to run a relay. 2. This would certainly make queries for events slower as a result (since now there are so many events to go through to find the right ones). 3. Relays can no longer serve small isolated communities that know nothing about the rest of the nostr network and instead serve one giant public square removing some flexibility in the network.
Places to spend it and someone or something to manage a lightning node for me. God I hate channel management.
And to be clear you have no idea about the existence of relay A in my example*
What you're describing works for events/messages that a relay has received but I think she's describing the situation where you're favourite nostr account is posting to two relays for example, relay A and relay B. You grab your events from relay B but maybe the newest event from your fav nostr account somehow didn't make it to relay B. And you would have no idea.
I really like the idea of communities on relays more and more everyday. Like other than the fact that my nostr client gives me a default set of nostr relays to connect to, why the hell am I connected to nostr.wine for example? Are all the someliers of nostr congregating there? If no, why aren't they? They should be and then anytime I want to peak into the somelier world, I connect to nostr.wine. Fuck the global town square.
What do we have here... Is it my own shop page with blogs, store and checkouts? hah... 😎

Woah!! What the heck is this? Your npub can be a web page?
I agree. I found on Twitter the toxic retards who were dogmatic aboutBitcoinn, were very confrontational, hot headed and close minded contributed nothing to Bitcoin and were not builders. I don't see them on nostr since most of them are big Elon simps too.
Okay here are my findings:
- strfry seems to treat REQs with the same subID as replaceable: https://github.com/hoytech/strfry/blob/32a367738c6db7430780058c4a6c98b271af73b2/src/QueryScheduler.h#L23
- gnost-relay just overwrites, doesn't check for duplicates at all: https://github.com/barkyq/gnost-relay/blob/817ff549b2f4b078d984abec9105010555e76e80/main.go#L661
- nostr-rs-relay replaces: https://git.sr.ht/~gheartsfield/nostr-rs-relay/tree/master/item/src/conn.rs#L118
- nostream ignores duplicates: https://github.com/cameri/nostream/blob/b6133a18fde1bba396bc04419adc39f186ea8eb0/src/handlers/subscribe-message-handler.ts#L92
- nnostr replaces: https://github.com/Kukks/NNostr/blob/78753daa9c0a81adebab1b50ebea923de654036a/Relay/StateManager.cs#L56
So 4/5 I've looked at replace, only one rejects duplicates.
