To be clear: I'm not some Proton paid shill (i wish). I don't even use them, you can check my domain's MX record if you doubt me. There's plenty stuff about them that I don't like.

I just dislike hypocrisy and privacy nihilism.

Why? No open pgp compatibility, only e2e encryption between tuta users...

Doesn't the dictionary file accept patterns? If not, it definitely should 😅

You can't pay with bitcoin without paying with something else (credit card) first.

I wouldn't know about that but:

* You should not rely on the law to protect your privacy

* you definitely should not put all your eggs in the same basket: if you use proton mail, don't use any other service from them. Look for alternatives for vpn, cloud, password manager, notes, calendar, etc and spread your risk as much as possible. Ideally most of the above can and should be selfhostable.

No, I don't think so. Even if you self host, they can still seize your servers easily. Not to mention all your sent emails will be flagged as spam since you are not a major email provider.

It's hopeless, there's only lesser evils. Use SimpleX or Signal/Molly for secure sensitive communication.

The steelman case for Proton is that looks like most legal orders for info do not result in arrests, showing that what they have is not that valuable in the first place. In the few instances it leeds to an arrest, it's news.

People should not use email at all for sensitive stuff or if they want anonymity. Email nowadays should be just to use services that require one.

I'm a transmisson-daemon die hard but yes, this! Combined with kodi or similar, it makes for a great experience.

Next step is bigender

This is server side. It does not matter if it's open source, you can never verify what they are running there.
