lying is what you do

laying is what you do to stuff

not really that important but something to decorate with.

there are two sides to every argument, and seeing as i'm feeling a little hungry right now, i'm hoping that one of them is a side of ham.

and following from this, one might say that an authoritarian figure is someone who feels that the entire country is a child that they feel responsible for as a kind of parent, and the citizens are just being unruly because they don't know what's good for them. an overly authoritarian approach might result in the opposite of what one hopes for (rebellion and chaos instead of safety), but there's also the option of extreme application of authority, to quench the revolt, and rule with an iron fist.

so, in a way, a strict parent is not so much an example of self control to be followed, but rather someone who struggles with feelings of worry and exhaustion, and lacks the self restraint to hold back and let the child be free. but too much of this self restraint would put the child in danger. so where do you strike the balance?

as a child, you perceive parental control as malicious, and you're not expected to have a bigger perspective

as an adult, the challenge isn't so much that you're trying to control the child, but more that you are yourself a bit tired, sleepy and exhausted, and you worry, and worry is suffering, so you try to relieve it, and with how humans are put together by nature, controlling the child is how to alleviate this suffering.

the never-ending conflict of the parental/authority figure going "i'm only trying to protect you" versus the rebellious child going "you're constraining my freedom, leave me alone" - but applied in almost any context when humans have interactions and relationships, across all historical periods
