Treasure Island

This book was fun to read and I now understand why this has become a classic.

The story is pure adventure and the characters come alive on the page. Stevenson set the bar on creating pirates and it seems everyone since has followed his lead.

Some of the pirate language is a little bit hard to understand but you get the gist of it and it lends an air of credibility to the story.

It starts a little bit slow but stick with it as once it picks up it doesn’t stop.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one!

Incidentally Robert Louis Stevenson made the term pieces of eight famous, which set me to wondering.

Another term for a part of a piece of eight was a bit… or bits o’ coin.

Is Satoshi a Treasure Island fan? Is the term bitcoin a nod to RLS?

I will never know! But I would like to believe this to be true.

He not only helped Bugliosi, but he also gave much help to Paul Tate during his private investigation of his daughter’s death.

O'Neill's information on Whitson provides strong support for the proposition that military and intelligence agencies were involved in the Tate LaBianca murders, bringing the CIA’s Phoenix program of assassination and torture of Vietnamese non-combatants home to America. The purpose behind the plot was to incite terror among white people and put the blame on black radicals.

We will plant a new one in its’ place, but it will take time

Today is kind of a sad day. We have been blessed to have inherited a very old avocado tree. We have enjoyed it for years, but these last 2 years it has appeared to be slowly struggling.

We have consulted arborists and followed their recommendations and spent a lot of time and money to try to save this tree.

Turns out, it is infested with termites. Initially, it appeared to be just one of the limbs which we chopped, but the pest people discovered that it is essentially completely infested and therefore has to be removed from our property.

It will be missed, but will leave behind space for more opportunities of growth.
