I try to post mostly positive things, which can be hard these days, but here's a good one:
It is a browser extension that silently clicks on all those ads, polluting the advertisers' data streams.
If used by enough people, it would mean that, to the advertiser, it'll look like they got lots of clicks buy not lots of sales.
This means the value of clicks will go down, which means less profit for people who serve up ads.
If you promote this extension, you will be hurting American companies who are just trying to make ab buck. Companies like Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Google, X, and others. You wouldn't want to make life more difficult for them... would you? 😈🤣
It is do disheartening to see people who advocate ditching Google Maps suggesting people use Apple Maps instead.
OpenStreetMaps is the non-corporate option. And if you want to help contribute, download StreetComplete from F-Droid or your app store of choice. They make it like a game to fill in street addresses, hours businesses are open, and tons of other things.
Cool, will do.
Is there a way for me to browse what campaigns other people are running?
If not, it'd be cool to have being browsable be an opt-in feature for people running campaigns.
BTW, this isn't limited to #bitcoin gear. Some other examples would be a #meshtastic, #OpenAir weather station, c0pperdragon's Hot Plate https://www.tindie.com/products/c0pperdragon/hot-plate/ or whatever else people might be interested in. #Decentralize the world.
I'm sad that I only found a couple people interested in this idea, but at least now I know not to put any more effort into it. I want to see more open source hardware in the world. Ah well, c'est la vie. #FailFast and all that.
I'm sure I will eventually find some project that can be funded with nostr:npub16jdfqgazrkapk0yrqm9rdxlnys7ck39c7zmdzxtxqlmmpxg04r0sd733sv's CoinFundIt. It looks like that platform has a lot of potential.
I guess it's time to look for alternatives to nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm. Having a lightning wallet that doesn't work reliably when combined with privacy software like Tor is not useful. I can't zap anyone!
Anyone know of a lightning provider that is usable ny mere mortals (i.e. people who aren't lightning developers) and treats privacy advocates with respect?
Based on the number of cloudflare customers who give me a captcha (or 2 or 3) or just flat out block me, I'd say they are either incompetent out they don't care.
Since I know someone who works there and they are highly competent, that kinda narrows it down some.
And the Stropharia rugoso-annulata:
Bag of spawn does a 50 sq ft bed.
- Prep ingredients
- Soak a bale of fresh straw for 24-72 hours
- Soak cardboard for 30+ minutes
- Layers
- Cardboard
- Peel in half (the difficult way)
-bCorrugation up
- Poke drainage holes
- Straw
- Crumbled spawn a la brown sugar on oatmeal
- Tease into straw with pitchfork
- 2-3" aged hardwood chips
- Compress by walking on it
- Water weekly to get up to 1" precipitation
- Harvest in fall
Our full notes on the Agaricus subrufescens:
Plant the spawn in layers after the soil temperature is going to remain above 50°F for the rest of the season.
Half a bag of spawn does a 9 sq ft bed.
Layers:
- 4" finished compost
- Moist enough to squeeze a drop of water out & stick into a ball
- Egg-sized pieces of spawn, 4-6" apart
- Do not crumble spawn
- 1" finished compost
- 3-4" straw or wood chips
Almond Agaricus (Agaricus subrufescens), which was the egg sized chunks
and
Wine cap (Stropharia rugoso-annulata), which was the other one
We had two types, and I can look up the names if it'd be helpful.
Break into egg sized pieces, bury it in 3" of compost. Keep wet.
Wet cardboard, layer of wood chips, crumble and spread the spore on top. Keep wet.
Our best guess was that we didn't keep it wet enough. 🤷♂️
I know of this one: https://www.airgradient.com/indoor/
I don't have one but I know someone who does and it seems to do what it says on the tin.
They also have an outdoor version

Sorry that link was bad. Here is a link to all my mushroom related hardware and software https://github.com/lightningspore/mushroom-monorepo
I tried growing mushrooms (outside) and it was a completele failure. Worst of all, we don't know what we did wrong. We followed the instructions that came with the spores...
Amyway, what's of this equipmemt for? Is it for producing the spores, or indoor growing, or something else?
If anyone is interested in #crowdfunding #OpenSource hardware builds, I'd be willing to help.
The idea is simple: find an open source hardware project that you would like to have built for you, pool resources with others who want the same, we build a batch of the devices for the group.
Right now I just want to get a pulse for whether there is interest in this concept.
If I am involved, there WILL be a donation to the person/group who created the design. This is not a negotiation.
As a concrete example, this could be done with a Trezor Model T: https://github.com/trezor/trezor-hardware/tree/master/electronics/trezor_model_t/kicad
The cost per unit will almost certainly be higher to produce in a small batch than buying direct from the creator. So you might be asking ,"If it's more expensive, then what's the point?"
1. You won't be in their database as a customer
2. The hardware might not be available in fully assembled form
3. To call bullshit on projects that are supposedly open hardware but in reality, there's not enough information available to reproduce their work
I think that third point is really the most important.
I want to reward anyone who is publishing open hardware and penalize anyone who is trying to capitalize on the trend of #OpenHardware without holding up their end of the bargin. If you feel the same way, give this post a boost and we'll see if there's enough interest to make this a reality.

What you can do about this:
- don't fall for phishing scams
- that's about it, sadly
Some things you can do in the future:
- Use a unique email address everywhere
- Use different nyms for things like this
- Do a group buy so they only have one person's info
- Build your own #Trezor (protip: it'll be expensive)
- Combine the two points above and do a group buy to have someone build multiple trezors!

Security alert from Trezor
Their support ticket system got hacked (they use a 3rd party system) and email addresses and names/nicks may have leaked.
Source: my inbox
This is why they should #SelfHost their systems. I am confident they care more about an incident than any company who would host a ticketing system for them.
They did seem to do reasonably well as minimizing the amount of data collected. If you are going to provide customer support, you need some way to get in touch, and email is pretty reasonable. Having a nick for what the customer wants to be called is also pretty reasonable. I have to wonder how many of those names/nicks were "Satoshi".
Hey nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5, I'm excited to try self-custody lightning. When I try to receive my first sats, the app say "a setup fee will be deducted" but clicking "learn note" doesn't say how much or where that fee goes.
Can you point me to documentation on this?
Is this just an on-chain transaction fee?
It would be helpful if the description of what goes on under the hood was written for people who are not lightning developers. Something like "your first receive will require the LSP to open an inbound liquidity chanel. This incurs an on-chain tx fee that goes to bitcoin miners, and an additional 1000 sats that goes to the LSP" (or whatever the actual numbers are).
This would really help with the on-boarding process. I like having the explanation about wrapped invoices but without any diagrams, it doesn't make sense to bitcoin veterans unless they're familiar with the inter workings of the lightning network (let alone people new to all forms of bitcoin).
