Ended up seeing 207 distinct nodes over the course of the past 3 days. Network coverage was amazing! Well done, #hackers. Well done.
Number of active nodes are now dropping. We're now down to four dozen nodes online at the moment.
There's a Meshtastic security talk at 17:30 ET (16:30 CT). That's 2 hours from now. Looks like it'll be a good one, talking about vulnerabilities and countermeasures.
You can live stream it. Details here: https://www.shmoocon.org/streams/
Put this on blast for all the #meshtastic fans, haters, and those who are just curious. π
OK, that was much more of an intro talk than I expected and the so-called vulnerability was not related to LoRa or Meshtastic at all.
Good intro to the tech & security though
I'm using stock firmware (v2.5.15). Maybe it was raised at some point?

New personal record: being in a #mesh with over 100 nodes.

#meshtastic #heltec #v3 #decentralize all the things!
And if so, how has nobody stolen it yet? It's sitting right next to the sidewalk and it seems like it'd be very valuable...
Is this a real geode?

No, but I plan on helping to contribute to the project in the near future.
If enough of us come together to help
#meshtastic at a #hacker conference

Hell yeah
The keyboard is a little difficult to get used to, but having a standalone device is pretty great. Overall, I'd say it's worth it.
I'm using the "Facy UI" (old image, before it got pulled from CI) and it's a nice design but kinda crashy and glitchy. I plan on compiling my own version of the latest version and ideally submitting merge requests if I can fix any remaining issues.
Mrs. O'Leary's cow!
And before I go to sleep for the night, here's one for those who want to #decentralize all the things.

From the #money #museum in Chicago. If you're not familiar with how decisions are made within that group, you might be surprised to know it's not the chairman of the federal reserve who decides to increase/decrease/hold interest rates. They're just the one who announces the decision.
I'd still prefer more people than a dozen rich bankers be making these decisions, but I'd say that calling their system decentralised is legit.
Warning for #meshtastic users buying batteries: the connectors aren't standardized. The 5000mAh batteries I bought have a larger connector than will fit on the #Heltec #v3 or the #LilyGo #Tdeck. You have been warned.

If you're new and don't want to be like me, get a pre-made unit from someone who already learned this lesson (and either buys matching gear, or solders on the needed power connector for you).
The local #2600 meeting last friday was fun.
