It's kinda funny to me that the University of Maryland operates a DNS root server
If meta actually makes threads compatible with activity pub, we might need to spend more time on nostr/activity pub bridges. I never thought some of my friends would be on decentralized social media, but a bunch of them have threads accounts now.
I always hated social media growing up, never really used it much but have been super interested in all the decentralized social stuff going on recently.
How are you setting it up?
Flights can be kinda therapeutic. It’s not every day you get literal perspective of the world around you
I finally graduated from Princeton yesterday
Ark seems pretty interesting...
We also just need to keep improving our clients and expanding the protocol so that nostr is ready when the non-techy masses peek their heads in here to see if it’s a place they’d like to stay
I feel like social media - if it catches on - could be how we get the next million people into crypto and awaken people to the power of decentralized protocols and ownership of your data.
Most people don't care about decentralization or privacy as much as they probably should, but if they join nostr because it's fun and all their friends are on there, they'll start using bitcoin since nostr runs on zaps and they might start using other more decentralized protocols that become popular as nostr grows. This could be the foot in the door that we've been looking for.
Now we just gotta get a few big celebrities to use nostr lol...
Yes, maybe people have experienced the horrificness.
There is a talk from earlier this year about how they are making an noble effort to improve the thing in their next version: https://fosdem.org/2023/schedule/event/matrix20/
Have these changes already started taking effect? I admittedly don’t have much experience at all with matrix but tried it the other day and thought the basic messaging functionality at least was fairly smooth. Far from the worst I’ve experienced haha
I’d never heard of it before, but definitely looks interesting
It seems to me that nostr is an awesome social media protocol but just not really meant for DMs at all. The current solution seems a little clunky and not scalable to a good messaging experience. What if nostr added some support for people including their matrix usernames and then nostr clients could work to incorporate a full matrix messaging experience in addition to the social media side of things that already works so well. A client like this would have a fantastic social media, messaging, group chat, video calling, and payment (via lightning) experience. It’s like a decentralized super app lol.
learning about self-attention and multi-head attention today.
This was one of the more helpful videos I've come across recently.

This was a super interesting event, I'm very excited for the future of Princeton's DeCenter!!
I particularly enjoyed hearing Troy Cross go off on the NYT article lol, I hope that was recorded
What are your thoughts on something like farcaster?
Was researching some daos the other day and came across a proposal from 2021 that overwhelming passed and the proposal was to exchange a large portion of the daos funds for ftt tokens lol
why is data collection/cleaning so painful
Everyone should read Inventing Bitcoin by #[0]

A Bitcoin fork does not affect the 21 million supply limit of Bitcoin itself. Imagine you have the world’s gold stored in the ultra securely engineered Fort Knox under heavy armed guard. You build a small, poorly engineered shack and call it Fort Knox Lite, securing it with a single guard. You paint some rocks a gold color and put them in the shack. You then announce to the world that you’ve “forked gold” and issued every holder of gold an equivalent amount of free rocks inside your shack.
