Gm, friends. A few nostr thoughts this morning.
I’m not particularly technical and definitely not a developer, so when I see people very bullish on #nostr I can’t tell if it’s justified or not. I’m certainly excited about it, and there seems to be a lot of development on the protocol, but I have no frame of reference. Were/are bluesky or mastodon or scuttlebutt the same in terms of user enthusiasm, development activity, etc.?
If you were going to find users overly excited about a protocol, wouldn’t you find them on the protocol? And if so, how much stock can you put in that?
An even bigger question that I can’t answer because of my lack of technical knowledge is, can the protocol scale? Are there limitations that I can’t see and just aren’t getting talked about bc everyone around here is pro-nostr?
At this point I’d consider myself enthusiastically hopeful.
But reading this post from nostr:npub1wmr34t36fy03m8hvgl96zl3znndyzyaqhwmwdtshwmtkg03fetaqhjg240 about why he’s switched all his future development efforts to Nostr makes me think there is really something valuable here and that Nostr really has tremendous potential.
For a developer to *switch* to Nostr after spending so much time thinking about social media, how to fix it, and building on another protocol, seems to me like pure signal.

I'm not a developer, my understanding of code is very basic ( little html css and phyton ).
But i grow up using internet after torrent was invented and this simple protocol actually meant so much to me. Games, films, software flourish and become such big thing thanks to a simple unstoppable open protocol..
I was skeptical about bitcoin for years but when i give a little time to understand it and i saw it like "a torrentable monetary value" it clicked for me. I understood it's not just "another form of value".. it's "the form of value" that have the ability to change everything else...
Nostr is the same .. a torrent of notes signed by someone with a key and no central server sign up..it's like "torrenting notes" there is the ability to PROPAGATE thing made by anyone for any reason without someone to stop it..

For more than 2 decades I saw things propagate and distrbute on the web, the more it happened the more "wealthy" and more usefull internet become.
Nostr have the ability to push it a step further by beeing a much easier "propagate and distribute" protocol.
In europe myprotein have a REAL100% peanut butter/almonds...they claim 100% peanuts...well it taste exactly the same as 100% peanuts I did by myself for years... so I stopped doing my own thanks to them it's more convenient at no additional cost ( pretty much same price as peanuts if i have to buy it myself)

nostr key are very simple to generate and store 🤔 actually making it super interesting as a first impact for someone new !
I mean the first impression of " I am the one owning what i post here" will go disappearing ( for that kind of users).
Nostr could grow by some clients using this ( that will also lock user in THAT client, since property log in connection).
But it will not spread the nostr protocol meaning.
New user simply won't get what is this about and will be set apart.

This is one of the most iconic things where i come from 😂.
Best one is made not with grain alcohol, but double distilled fruit alcohol.
We have a lot of fruits, plums usually double distilled( țuică ) is best pick but usually people tend to save and drink it as it is.
Second and most used double distilled alcohol from apple, pear ,grapes, cherry.
Nowadays people use grain 96% alcohol as a shortcut. Not the same quality obviously.

Nostr clients without zaps will not stop people from zapping will not stop people from SPEAKING ABOUT zapping.
Imagine using a nice app and hear about people zapping without seeing how you cand do the same.
People will start to use it in browser on pc.. and they will suddenly think twice about buying an iphone again since subconsciously they will realise that instead of "only on apple having a feature" , "only on apple you don't have some features".
It will turn apple advantages in disadvantages at a conscious level.
