Happy birthday to Black Panther Party (BPP) co-founder and chairman Bobby Seale!
When Seale began attending Merritt College in Oakland, California, he was exposed to Black radical politics and first met Huey Newton. Inspired by Malcolm X, revolutionary independence movements in Africa, and anti-colonial thinkers such as Frantz Fanon, Seale, and Newton founded the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense in 1966. While working at a War on Poverty program, he and Newton wrote the revolutionary ten-point program that laid the groundwork for the BPP's radical legacy as a movement fighting to achieve Black liberation through revolutionary socialism.
In 1968, Seale was arrested, along with seven other activists, during protests at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, becoming one of the infamous Chicago Eight defendants. During the trial, Seale was repeatedly denied the right to represent himself, and the presiding judge, Julius Hoffmann, ordered him bound and gagged. He was ultimately sentenced to four years in prison for contempt of court. In an interview with the Guardian, Seale recalled: "All I did in Chicago was to exercise my legal right to speak on my own behalf, and I was given four years in jail as a result. But I think the most serious injustice perpetrated by the court system in America is the inability of a Black man to get a jury of his peers."
After his release from jail, Seale found the BPP significantly weakened due to arrests, killings, and internal conflicts caused by the FBI's efforts to neutralize the organization. In an attempt to enter electoral politics, Seale ran for mayor of Oakland in 1973, finishing second and prompting a runoff election, which he ultimately lost.
In 1974, Seale resigned as chairman of the BPP. However, to this day, he remains politically active, advocating for groups that support social justice, and is an influential figure in the fight for equality and justice.

In the past 24 hours, Israel killed 248 Palestinians in Gaza, 56 of the victims were killed in southern Gaza which Israel claims to be a “safe area” for Palestinians. 4,385 Palestinians have been killed so far, 14 days into Israel’s onslaught on the besieged enclave. 1,756 children are amongst the victims which amounts to at least one Palestinian child killed by Israel every 15 minutes since October 7.
Israeli attacks are also intensifying in the occupied West Bank, with the death toll there rising to 90 in the past two weeks. Overnight Israel bombed a mosque in the Jenin refugee camp killing at least two Palestinians and injuring three others, while Israeli forces south of Tubas fatally shot a 19-year-old in the head, according to Palestinian reports. In Huwara, south of Nablus, which has been the site of repeated pogroms by Israeli settlers, settlers rampaged through the town attacking Palestinian homes.
Palestinian resistance factions in the West Bank responded to the Israel aggression with counter-attacks in various locations.
Meanwhile, despite the US urging Israel not to expand the war to its northern border with Israel, clashes between the Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah and Israeli forces continued on that front, with Israel continuing to use internationally banned white phosphorus in its attacks on Lebanese villages. In Syria, the Ministry of Defense reported that Israel carried out a series of airstrikes against Aleppo and Damascus, killing one civilian worker.

Israeli airstrikes killed 352 and injured 669 in Gaza in the past 24 hours, wiping out 37 families, reports the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The total death toll stands at 4,137 while 13,162 have been injured. 70 per cent of the victims are women, children and the elderly and the death toll has already surpassed the combined death toll of Israel’s 2008 and 2014 onslaughts on Gaza.
This morning, Israel permitted the entry of just 20 aid trucks to Gaza through the Rafah border crossing, out of thousands that are waiting to cross. Prior to the start of this current onslaught, an average of 500 trucks per day passed through the crossing.
Yesterday Euro Med Human Rights Group accused Israel of “committing genocide through continuous and relentless aerial bombardment of civilian populations and the destruction of homes over their heads.” The group added that one quarter of northern Gaza strip has been destroyed.

Israel has been accused of committing another war crime after it hit a Greek Orthodox Church in Gaza on Thursday evening. The attack on Saint Porphyrius Church, whose premises are 1,600 years old killed at least eight people who were sheltering in the church.
Israeli air strikes hit over 100 targets in Gaza overnight including an attack on the southern Gazan city of Khan Younis which killed 21 people. Several people were also killed during an attack on an apartment in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza. Since the start of Israel's bombardment of the enclave on October 7, more than 3,859 people have been killed and over 13,500 injured. More than 12,500 people have also been injured.
According to the UN, at least 30% of all housing in the Gaza Strip has been destroyed or damaged, while around one million people have been internally displaced. People are also increasingly forced to drink water from unsafe sources increasing the possibility of an outbreak of infectious diseases.
In the West Bank, thirteen 13 people, including five children, were killed during raids on the Nur Shams refugee camp in the city of Tulkarm on Thursday. Two others were also killed in separate raids at Dheisheh refugee camp and the town of Budrus. 76 Palestinians have been killed since the start of Israel's bombardment of Gaza on October 7.
Despite the growing tally of Israeli crimes with the full backing of Washington, a YouGov poll indicates growing support amongst US public opinion for Israel's onslaught on Gaza. Nearly half (48%) of those polled said they are more sympathetic to Israel than Palestine, compared with 42% the week previously.
Meanwhile, massive demonstrations in solidarity with Palestine continue around the world, with tens of thousands coming out this week in Paris, Berlin, Jordan, Yemen, Tunisia, Turkey, Lebanon, London and beyond.

Video shows the horrific impact of Israeli air strikes on Gaza and survivors walking through scenes of devastation as Israel's ruthless bombardment of the besieged enclave continues.
Dozens of people were killed overnight and on Thursday morning in Israeli air strikes. Rafah was the most heavily targeted area while 11 residential buildings were hit in Khan Younis and five residential buildings in al-Zahra in central Gaza were also hit. A baby was killed and several people were injured during an attack on Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. 3,748 have been killed since the start of the Israeli bombardment on October 7 and 12,065 have been injured.
On Wednesday, the US was the only country in the Security Council to veto a UN resolution that called for a humanitarian pause claiming that it didn't sufficiently respect Israel's "right to self-defense". 12 countries voted for it, while the UK and Russia abstained. Meanwhile US President Joe Biden attended Israel's War Cabinet meeting, during which he said the US "will continue to have Israel's back". The UK newspaper, the Times, reported that according to "accounts of closed door meetings" between Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Biden, Biden gave his "private backing" for an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza, despite the fact that it would escalate the bloodshed in Gaza even further, and likely cause a war in the wider region.

At least 500 people have been killed by an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday evening. The victims of the single deadliest Israeli attack since the Nakba 75 years ago were doctors, patients and refugees, including many women and children and the death toll is expected to rise.
At least 37 people were also killed in separate Israeli air raids on Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza. Two people were also killed when Israel hit a bakery in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. There are also fears that people in Gaza are beginning to dehydrate to death as water supplies run out, while more than 3,000 people have now been killed by Israeli strikes on Gaza since they began on October 7.
The hospital bombing sparked protests across the Middle East in Lebanon, Jordan, Iran, Turkey, and the West Bank as well as in Germany.

In the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, thousands of Palestinians poured onto the streets. Similar protests have occurred across the occupied West Bank to show solidarity with Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip who are suffering due to Israel's unprecedented bombardment of the territory.
Over the last week, the Israeli military has conducted numerous operations in the West Bank alongside the ongoing bombardment of the Gaza Strip, storming cities, villages, and refugee camps. Israeli occupation forces killed at least 57 people, including 16 children, and injured more than 1,200 in the process. During these attacks, Palestinians have been subjected to assault, tear gas, sound bombs, rubber, and live ammunition.
According to the Commission for Prisoner's Affairs, the Israeli occupation forces have abducted over 500 Palestinians from the West Bank since the beginning of the Palestinian offensive on October 7. The brutal repression in the West Bank is part of Israel's illegal policy of collective punishment against the Palestinian people.

The heaviest bombardment since the outbreak of the war pounded Gaza last night, with Israeli air strikes also hitting southern Gaza, the region Israel previously designated as an evacuation zone. Israel's aggression against Gaza has so far killed over 2,750 people, including 1,030 children, and injured nearly 10,000.
Iran has doubled down on previous warnings to Israel not to escalate further. The Iranian foreign minister said his country "cannot simply remain an observer." He also met with armed resistance groups in Palestine and Lebanon, confirming that "all scenarios are on the table."
The long-awaited Egyptian humanitarian convoy to bring water, food, blankets, and coffins to Gaza, cut off from all resources by Israel's "total blockade," continues to be blocked by Israel. An agreed time frame this morning for the passage of the vital aid has not been met by Israel.
"I strongly oppose the opening of the blockade and the introduction of goods into Gaza on humanitarian grounds," Energy Minister Israel Katz said.
At the same time, hospitals in Gaza face total collapse as medical supplies and emergency generator fuel run out. Senior doctor Mohamed Kandil reports as much as one patient per minute at Nasser Hospital and warns, "The health system will collapse. The hospital will change to a graveyard."
