🟡 Latest War on Gaza news roundup:

🟡 The death toll from Israel’s relentless war on Gaza has reached 23,469, with more than 59,604 injured.

🟡 While the world is gripped by the live broadcast of the South Africa-led court case against Israel on genocidal charges before the ICJ, with major open-air live broadcast events around the world, Western mainstream media are avoiding the topic. CNN, BBC, Sky News, CBS, NBC, CNBC, and others are not broadcasting the historic event.

🟡 Israeli forces killed two of the Palestine Red Crescent Society’s (PRCS) staff and two of its patients in a strike on a PRCS ambulance in central Gaza.

🟡 Hamas fighters partially or fully destroyed 42 Israeli military vehicles, killed 22 Israeli soldiers, and carried out over 52 operations against the invading forces over the past week, Hamas announced.

🟡 A Palestinian man who was previously shot by Israeli forces died in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah. Since October 7, at least 342 people have been killed in the West Bank due to Israeli forces’ attacks.

🟡 Israeli authorities demolished a Palestinian house in the Sur Baher neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem, displacing more families. Since October 7, at least 453 Palestinians, including 227 children, from the West Bank and East Jerusalem have been displaced due to house demolition and settler violence, according to the UN.

🟡 The UN Security Council demanded Yemen’s Ansarallah end its attacks on ships in the Red Sea immediately. It cautioned against escalating tensions while hypocritically endorsing the US-led task force that claims to have been defending vessels.

🟡 Egyptian mediation efforts between Israel and the Hamas resumed in Cairo, Egypt, according to Egyptian sources speaking to The New Arab. Egypt previously paused its involvement in response to Israel’s assassination of Hamas deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri in Beirut, Lebanon.

“These are the words of our founding president, Nelson Mandela. This is the spirit in which South Africa acceded.” – South Africa is taking Israel to the International Court of Justice in a historic move on charges of genocide. The two-day public hearing, which started today, is expected to put significant pressure on Israel, crippling Western governments’ backing of Israel’s war in Gaza.

South Africa’s genocide case against Israel marks only the second time in the history of the Genocide Convention that one state has tried to prosecute the atrocities of another. The trial, live-streamed worldwide, will provide a stage for the investigation of Israel’s genocidal intentions case.

South Africa’s speakers presented an extensive catalog of Israel’s crimes, with harrowing evidence, pictures, videos, and reports documenting the systematic extermination of Gaza. Powerful statements drew parallels between South Africa’s historic struggle against apartheid and that of the Palestinian people.

Israel is likely to argue that its killing of more than 23,000 people in Gaza is in “self-defense.” Experts say a sentence in this case could take three to four years.

Security forces of the Palestinian Authority (PA) clamped down on protesters against US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah and his meeting with PA leader Mahmoud Abbas. Security forces have arrested multiple protesters as they attempted to march towards the PA headquarters.

During Blinken’s latest visit to the Middle East, it became clear that the US was attempting to play different sides to secure their interests amid rising regional tensions. While in Tel Aviv, he called the genocide charges against Israel “meritless” and distracting; when meeting with Abbas, he discussed the PA’s role in the future of Gaza after stating that the US opposes the forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank.

Blinken has previously stated that the US envisions PA rule over Gaza, despite the PA being hugely unpopular among Palestinians due to their ineffectiveness in representing Palestinians and effectively being an Israeli proxy. Support for Abbas dropped significantly, with demand for his resignation among Palestinians rising to around 90%, and even higher in the West Bank, as revealed by a recent poll by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR). The same is true for the trust in the PA as a whole, as demand for its dissolution rose to nearly 60%, the highest percentage ever recorded in PSR polls.

Twitter has launched a massive purge against large accounts that have posted in support of Palestine. The purge has taken well-known activists, bloggers, podcasts, journalists such as Alan Mcleod, and even some from critical mainstream outlets like the Intercept’s Ken Klippenstein and Steven Zetti of the Texas Observer.

Despite fashioning himself as a “rebel” and guardian of free speech, Elon Musk has colluded with Western governments to eliminate any opposition to issues of significant concern for the foreign policy establishments. Whether it’s Ukraine or Israel, Musk has used his platform to crush any dissent or questioning of established narratives.

However, it’s not just Twitter. Our pages on Meta are currently censored, and our TikTok account has been geo-blocked, meaning that our European followers cannot see any of our content.

Political censorship has clearly become a feature on these apps, even more so since Israel’s war against Gaza. Mainstream media have not only stayed silent on this censorship but have actively encouraged it and claimed that it’s some crusade against “anti-Semitism.”

🟡 While this purge continues, we ask our communities to stay alert. Join us on Telegram to defy media censorship of the War on Palestine & global people’s struggles. 👇

“Most of the massacres were carried out by perfidious American aircraft.” – Watch this child inside Gaza commenting on Antony Blinken’s Middle East tour, the US Secretary of State.

Blinken’s fourth diplomatic tour since October 7th with regional allies aims to prevent the Israel war on Gaza from further inflaming regional tensions and sparking a new war with Hezbollah. Meanwhile, the US maintains unwavering support for Israel, including military aid and diplomatic protection against UN ceasefire votes or the South African-led ICJ genocide case.

The US has prioritized Israel’s needs, providing a $14 billion military aid package along with a massive operation to resupply Israel with vital military equipment, including Iron Dome air defense missiles. Israel has received the highest amount of military assistance from the US compared to any other nation since World War II, with aid exceeding $124 billion.

Hundreds of fascists marched in Italy doing the Roman salute used by the fascist leader Benito Mussolini until his death in 1945. The mob gathered on the anniversary of a far-left ambush attack against the youth organization of the far-right Italian Social Movement (MSI) party, the de facto successor party to Mussolini’s regime.

The attack by militant revolutionaries in 1978 left two dead outside the MSI headquarters during the violent power struggle period between communist and fascist groups, dubbed “the years of lead.” Another member of the MSI youth wing died in the ensuing riots on the same day.

The recent ceremony was also attended by local authorities, including Francesco Rocca, president of the Lazio region, and Miguel Gotor, the Councilor for Culture. Leaders of the ruling far-right Brothers of Italy party also expressed their support for the tribute.

Italy’s current Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, also took her first political steps in the MSI youth movement at the age of just 15. Her mother was also active in the MSI and later joined its successor party, National Alliance.

With the participation of the Yemeni Air Force and the first public sighting of its SU-22 fighter bomber, around a million people attended another massive protest in solidarity with Palestine in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa. Under the slogan “the blood of the free on the path to victory,” Yemenis marched through the capital. It was widely assumed that Saudi Arabia had succeeded in disabling the Yemeni Air Force’s capabilities in early March 2015, proving that Ansarallah’s military capabilities are likely much bigger than previously expected.

Similar protests have taken place across Yemen after Ansarallah commander Abdul-Malik al-Houthi called on the Yemeni people to go out in massive marches in support of the Palestinian people.

Since October 7 and the beginning of Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip, Yemen has become an increasingly effective and influential front against Israel, starting with ballistic and cruise missile and drone attacks, to the poignant impact on the Israeli economy and trade by preventing Israeli-linked ships and ships heading for occupied Palestine from passing through the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Bab Al-Mandab Strait, and the Red Sea.

With the establishment of a US naval task force in the area and the targeting of naval Ansarallah troops, the risk of a more significant confrontation erupting becomes ever closer.

Deadly police violence crushed protests in Nepal organized by job seekers, leaving two protesters dead and several injured. Hundreds took to the streets against what they condemned as stricter job conditions abroad.

Protesters set a Nepalese minister’s car on fire while police forces dispersed the crowd with tear gas.

Last year, Nepal plunged into its first recession in six decades as economic performance was hit by inflation and political instability. It was the first time the government officially acknowledged that the country was in recession.

Unemployment is rising due to the struggling economy and lack of job opportunities, forcing young people to leave the country to work abroad. The protesters were mainly young Nepalese people applying for jobs in South Korea.

Another threat of war on the Red Sea? A historic deal between Ethiopia and the breakaway Republic of Somaliland sparked mass protests in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, as tens of thousands took to the streets against a signed treaty that would give landlocked Ethiopia access to Somaliland’s port, a military base on the Red Sea and the Suez Canal further north.

Somaliland declared independence from Somalia unilaterally in 1991 but is not officially recognized by any other country except Taiwan. The new deal would make Ethiopia the first African country to recognize Somaliland’s independence.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Somalia’s government spoke of a move “contrary to international law” and viewed the deal as selling its land under a foreign flag. They recalled their ambassador from Ethiopia and requested a special session of the UN Security Council. “Somaliland is part of the Republic of Somalia, and Ethiopia has violated international norms,” it said in a statement. Somalia vowed to “defend every square inch” of their country.

France keeps losing influence in its former colonial African states: the French embassy in Niger’s capital has now closed – an extremely rare measure. The shutdown marks just the latest blow in a long series of political defeats for Paris in the region, including the withdrawal of all French troops from the country. But why are they in the Sahel region anyway?

Ever since France’s direct colonial overlordship over large parts of Africa ended in the 1950s and 60s, France has maintained a neo-colonial presence in much of the continent, not to lose access to precious natural resources and its profitable control over its former colonies’ central banks.

In 2011, France sought to reassert its domination of the continent when it led the charge for the war on Libya, a war that caused a wave of instability to flood the Sahel region. In response, France sent thousands of troops to “stabilize” the area, but more than a decade later, the opposite happened. In this video, we break it down.

Happy Birthday CLR James! A pioneer of the Black Marxist tradition. Born in Trinidad, he'd go on to author one of the most important texts on the history of the Haitian Revolution, "Black Jacobins", as well as applying his Marxist approach to analyzing his favourite sport, Cricket.

His critical Marxism often put him in conflict with other parts of the left, but his intellectual contributions to the Pan-African movement and the socialist tradition as a whole are undisputed.

With unprecedented confrontational moves in recent months, the Korean peninsula is possibly moving closer to war than ever. Are we getting another Korean War?

The DPRK leader Kim Jong Un ordered the country’s military to prepare to “pacify the entire territory of South Korea,” including with nuclear bombs, if necessary, according to state news agency KCNA.

Meanwhile, the President of the Republic of Korea (ROK), Yoon Suk Yeol, pledged to accelerate work to complete a system using “extended deterrence,” referring to the use of US military assets, including nuclear weapons.

The escalations come as, together with the US, Yoon was quick to use the situation in the Middle East to stir up conflict on the Korean peninsula.

Yoon has since scrapped the historic inter-Korean military agreement signed in 2018, re-arming troops at the border and conducting unprecedented joint military drills with the US and Japan.

Simultaneously, the US has deployed more military assets to the Korean peninsula, including nuclear-armed submarines, large aircraft carriers, and long-range bombers.

Together with the US, the ROK has threatened to unleash a “hell of destruction” on the DPRK while also having drawn absurd comparisons to Israel’s war on Gaza.

The last time the ROK and US unleashed a “hell of destruction” during the Korean War, they destroyed nearly all of the DPRK’s cities and towns, including an estimated 85% of its buildings, and killed a total of 1.2 million civilians.
