Trump's Border Policies Let More Immigrants Sneak In, Why Didn't He Do Anything Relevant to Fix the Border? Is Trump Incompetent on Every Issue? 🇺🇸 President Trump's top policy priority was supposedly "border security." But government data show that he failed to improve it. Border Patrol recorded 41 % more successful illegal entries in fiscal year 2019 than in 2016.

MAGA Senate Republicans blocked the border security bill supported by Biden, Harris, and Democrats. In fact it seems the MAGA Republicans in office are incompetent at fixing border security just like Trump was when he was in office 🇺🇸

Too much presidential politics? State legislatures are also on the ballot. Some of the most consequential and controversial issues — abortion and voting access, education, health care and criminal justice — are largely decided by state lawmakers who are, more likely than not, on your ballot this year. 🇺🇸

Georgia attorney general asks Supreme Court to reinstate abortion ban. In a court filing, Republican Georgia AG Petrany asked the justices to put on hold an order made by Fulton Superior Judge Robert McBurney earlier this week, which determined the state’s abortion law was unconstitutional because it denied a woman’s right to liberty by not allowing her to make decisions about her own body.🇺🇸
Election officials in Georgia, North Carolina and Florida are working quickly to ensure voters can still securely cast early ballots, despite the devastating storm impacts of Hurricane Helene that have in some cases left them without power, water and cell service. 🇺🇸
Potential solutions in the affected counties of the three states, which could determine the White House, could include extra polling places, extending early voting and making it easier to drop off mail ballots.

Abortion and Reproductive Rights Face Starkly Different Futures under Trump and Harris 🇺🇸 The presidential candidates have vastly divergent records on and plans for protecting access to reproductive health care, including abortion and IVF.
During his first term, Trump appointed the Supreme Court justices who helped overturn Roe v. Wade, the constitutional protection for abortion that had stood for 50 years, in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The 2022 ruling set in motion a slew of sweeping abortion restrictions or outright bans at the state level. Trump has repeatedly taken credit for the decision, saying on his social media platform, “I was able to kill Roe v. Wade.”
Harris presents a stark contrast. The Biden-Harris administration signed multiple executive orders to protect abortion, including ensuring abortion medication can be dispensed by pharmacies. The administration also defended abortion access at the Supreme Court in response to a challenge to regulatory approval of the abortion medication mifepristone and in a case involving emergency abortion care. The Biden-Harris administration also expanded coverage of abortion-related travel and made birth control easier to access under Medicaid, the government insurance program for people with a low income.
Hurricane Helene’s destructive path tore across several states, but the heaviest rainfall, and some of the worst damage, was hundreds of miles from where the storm made landfall. The catastrophic damage is a sign of what climate scientists have been warning about: as the Earth heats up, rainfall is becoming increasingly extreme and deadly. And torrential rain can occur anywhere, including far from coastlines. The infrastructure in most cities, including roads, bridges and buildings, isn’t set up to handle increasingly intense storms. That’s because engineers design it using old rainfall records, sometimes decades old.

Old-fashioned legacy media — especially radio — have become a vital information lifeline in the chaotic aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Power outages, lost cell signals and hundreds of road closures have stifled on-the-ground reporting, giving way to falsehoods that can spread quickly online.

Judge strikes down Georgia’s 6 week abortion ban. A court ruling striking down a Republican-imposed abortion ban in Georgia comes too late for Amber Nicole Thurman and Candi Miller. 🇺🇸 Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney, concluded that the meaning of “liberty” in Georgia includes “the power of a woman to control her own body, to decide what happens to it and in it, and to reject state interference with her healthcare choices.”
