Well, #Lightning seems to be a nice solution especially for fast, small transactions as you would expect in small scale shops like little grocery stores or something like a bakery... handling digital payment nearly the way you would make a cash transaction is - especially for those small businesses - a nice thing.
Today i had the opportunity to talk with a group of local merchants about digital payment solutions as part of my job as an "IT Guy", i briefly touched the topic of #Bitcoin and was met with a wall of FUD (which lead to my previous post).
Interestingly, now having talked to a few of this local shopowners (small grocery stores and a bakery) some really starting to have an interest in learning more about #Bitcoin especially after hearing about #Lightning . The nice thing they thought is that - in their view - the handling of #Bitcoin is very similar to that of cash, which is a big plus in my little corner of germany. Lets see where these initial steps will take us...
Finished porting my blog to fit the needs of #IPFS... now i am just contemplating to leave it as an #IPFS only blog or to add a http gateway
I really think #Bitcoin (and to some extend other cryptocurrencies) have the potential to be the one unifying digital currency, but one thing that - in my opinion - is the problem of the slow growing acceptance rate in businesses:
As long as the average Joe (or in my geographical region, the "Max Mustermann") can not simply walk into a store and pay with his Bitcoin / Lightning wallet or pay his stuff he regularly buys online this way, it is bound to the public perception as a niche payment tool for shady businesses or as high risk speculation.
Don't get me wrong: I find the technology and the concept of #Bitcoin great (and do so since over a decade)... but the real world use cases are sadly still very limited.
Damn... on some days i am sure the technology i use is conspiring to drive me crazy: My car had an drained battery and required a jumpstart, arriving in the office my PC is stuck doing Windows updates, my laptop can suddenly not connect to the domain (a thing i need to investigate), the coffee machine blinks and wants to be serviced and my private phone can suddenly not be shut down / rebooted... there IS a ghost in the machine and i am totaly conviced it is an evil one
The crows in my hometown are so aggressive that it would be near suicidal to try such thing...

The cool thing about nostr is that it brings back this feeling the "old internet" had before the big corporations took over... lets hope it stays that way.

Hardware startup Telly launches a free smart TV entirely supported by ads
Telly, a hardware startup led by Pluto TV co-founder Ilya Pozin, announced Monday that it’s giving away 500,000 of its new smart TVs for free. (Yes, we said free.) There’s a catch, though. Users must ...

That is something i would have anticipated in some dark 90s cyberpunk story...
Its weird how smell can transport you back in time: I just took a break from the office and encountered the right mixture of the smell of freshly mowed grass, exhaust fumes of a two-stroke and something else to beam me for an instant back to my ten year old self flying model planes at the club...

My comment:
Agreed... And sadly, most of Europe is declining world, especially central Europe.
My last two visits of Germany I was constantly asking "wtf is happening here?". Failing infrastructure, trains run late, dirty toilets, people feel annoyed and in "not my problem" mode. In Germany, which was punktlich, high quality, clean...
I don't even talk about cz/sk. Healthcare is way past clinical death, politicians are riding some kind of powertrip car and entrepreneurs are leaving. And, what is worst, people believe that politicians will fix this. No they won't. State destroys wealth, entrepreneurs create it.
If you understand this, you see that the country is dying, just most people did not notice it yet.
As a german i can sadly only agree. My personal take on the roots of these problems is that decades without REAL problems let us slip into some form of learned helplessness which now bites us in the ass while the 21th century beats us over the head with tons of real problems which needs immediate attention.
This in turn leads to the feeling of beeing totally owerhelmed followed by resignation. One thing i hear often while talking about the current problems is: "I cannot change anything about this... why schould i care?"
Foxtrott uniform charly kilo... seems like the amount of writes needed for sync of a new bitcoin node were a bit too much for the slightly older hdd i grabbed from my hardware pile...
Well, the system of direct democracy, so that people can vote directly on topics instead of electing an representative, is in my opinion, more fitting for todays times.
German here: While i am overall relatively happy with our "Grundgesetz" i would like more direct democracy like in switzerland
