Thx. Should have some good breezes in the afternoon if not going to the beach and off roading till sunset...

I absolutely love it. I know it's not yet what it'll become but I've been around tech world since it started. I also come from publishing, newspaper and mags.

#nostr is free speech, not just freer speech.

The concept like #bitcoin cannot be unseen or unknown. We can and will have free speech, free markets and sound.

It is now just a choice, the tools are here. Thanks to all devs and users for getting this started🤙🙏

My 80's laptop, had cassette back up and portable thermal printer and a 600 maybe 900 baud modem. Very slow b&w, text only...

I've known about Nostr for a while, but it wasn't until I received my first few zaps in a "Hey everyone, I'm new here" #helloworld message that things clicked for me.

The potential to earn with Bitcoin and receiving it straight into your wallet with no middlemen, however small the amounts would be, was facinating to me and has captivated my imagination since.

Was I providing value to the world by simply saying hello? What things could I do to provide value? What could be the ways to give back to this circular economy? Could a few sats transform into something bigger than me? What things could be built atop this new idea?

It is dawning on me how impactful the combination of Nostr and Bitcoin can be. Open Source, built from the ground up for freedom. A community of people who genuinely care. There is so much there to explore and to understand. It feels like opening a book for the first time, using a computer for the first time, or encountering a new life-experience that has you going "wait, I think this is significant" and being immersed with that new feeling.

Right now two hastags in particular have me going back to read again and again. #grownostr and #asknostr

#grownostr seems to be a place of people who want to build different communities within Nostr. People chatting in its purest form, often not knowing each other at all and engaging with their whole self, unadulterated, honest, open.

Then there is #asknostr, which seems like stackoverflow but for everything, anytime, people with random requests and benevolent people willing to help. Potential conversation starters and a human connection for anyone who might be struggling with something, whether technical or not.

There are no rules, and this has both sides of the yin & yang. In many ways I kind of love this, the fact that everything "just exists". The fact that all the messages aren't filtered or adjusted, that everything is linearly posted and readable like that is amazing.

This is how Twitter used to be, how Facebook used to be. That energy is here again! Can we keep it like this, this time around? Will Nostr be able to do what the big corporations have failed to do? This constructive melting pot is exactly what I think we need in our society, somewhere where you can find a new perspective.

If you have read this far, thank you. Thank you for being here and doing what you do.

True most of the time there's much more color all around and very hard to really capture it all in a photo.

Hey! Are you a new Nostrich? Are you practicing safe nsecs?

https://void.cat/d/Ujcm7u44K6uqrcT2K5YGaK.webp

You should never enter your nostr private key (nsec) into web clients. Think of this as your password, but you can't change it, and it's used to post all of your events and notes on nostr. It's very important. You need to keep it safe!

So, if you're using a web client such as snort, primal, coracle, satellite, or iris etc., you should not be entering in your nsec private key into these websites. It's just good security practice! Some web clients won't even function or allow you to sign into them unless you're using a Nostr extension (sometimes referred to as NIP-07).

To help you and your private key stay safe, you may use a web browser extension to hold your key for you and sign your events and notes on nostr on your behalf. The two most popular ones are nos2x and Alby. Nos2x was developed by nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 and is very basic, but to the point. nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm has some nice additional features included, such as a being a Lightning wallet, giving you a Lightning address, and a Nostr address.

I personally use them both for different situations. On desktop, I use Alby. On my Android phone with the Kiwi browser, I use nos2x.

If you have questions, do not be afraid to ask! 🤙

My Nostr origin story isn’t unusual. I followed the Bitcoin Twitter (Now X? TWIX?) crowd over here when everyone was talking about it. I listened to the podcasts about it. I started reading about how it works despite most of the terminology being completely foreign to me. I got the basics. That’s what mattered. Before that, I wasn’t a serious user of any social media despite having a few profiles set up. I’m one of those Gen X who didn’t see the point in broadcasting everything about myself. But I did see value in using them to find information. I would either like or bookmark things I wanted to go back and read or research later. I mainly use IG for shopping because of the visuals. I bookmark something I like and go back and shop for it later when I have free time. I would bookmark posts on Twitter that had articles or links I wanted to watch later. I deleted my Facebook account back in 2011 and stayed away except for an occasional event invite that had to be viewed there. So, the point is that I didn’t come to Nostr hoping to improve my social media experience. Because I had nothing significant to compare it to. The thing that clicked for me was the way the accounts worked, the fact that it was permissionless and decentralized and essentially portable. Why? Because, like my fellow middle-aged folks, the disco children of the 1970s, I hate passwords. I’ve lived just long enough for me to realize that I’ve used the same password since I was a teenager on half of my accounts because I don’t have the bandwidth in my mind to remember another one. And “Ilovegeorgemichael” doesn’t age well. (Just joking, of course, I was over George by high school) Anyway, the mere idea of being able to generate an ID and password, key pair, that didn’t require effort from me was heavenly. And, it was anonymous so you could control how much of your identity you would reveal. And, and, and…. the frosting, sprinkles and cherry on top was that the single key pair could be used with different clients that have different functions. Yes, please! I felt like someone read my mind when I was commenting on my favorite old people blog and saying to myself that I thought it would be great if I could have a single ID and password combination for all these apps that I use every day. And here it is. In the beginning phases, yes. But expanding more every day. I’m amazed by the ideas that the developer community on Nostr come up with. All within a collaborative, open-source space. I try to keep up with what they’re doing because I want to be a part of this. I want to see this succeed. And I like to learn new things. This whole experience of learning about the technology behind Nostr has been fun. Even if I only understand the surface level topics. My personal challenge is to set up a relay to use as a personal group chat. Maybe I’ll get to do that now that I’m not working a 9 to 5 anymore. And that’s my Nostr story. --Annie

Thanks for the content, you put out a great signal🤞

I agree you can use mobile o desktop. I've used chrome n firefox but brave I needed to clear cache and change a privacy setting.

One thing many dont seem to do is once set up with nostr key and are a moderator save your nostrnest key (6 words) because you'll wish you had.

If you have any issues just restore your identity and you'll be setup again. If you dont and you clear you browser cache you'll lose you work and access to your room.

It is a little buggy if you put a lot of people on stage but I really find it much better than X spaces. Got rugged 2x yesterday show.

If people do have issues they may find leaving the room and reentering fixes it.

Ha if you enjoy that maybe join us for Citadel Sunday in nostrnests.com/citadelsunday
