pls zap so I don't starve to death

If you have friends or family who believe that online age-verification, digital IDs and encryption backdoors are necessary to protect a free society, show them this article detailing how terrorism, CSAM, drug trafficking and money laundering have always been a pretense for limitless Government surveillance 👇

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Horsemen_of_the_Infocalypse

omg same lol

adding to the list of intrusive thoughts to land you straight in El Salvador lmao

"So you're telling me that *everyone* should have financial privacy"

"Yes"

"What about the terrorists"

People always get really excited when I tell them that I write about financial surveillance, and are equally as disappointed when they realize that I mostly write about Bitcoin things.

The normie cannot comprehend that financial privacy is impossible to enforce in our financial system.

Anybody want to ask Sen Lummis what stage of ‘Bitcoin will end wars’ this is

The jury in the trial against Roman Storm is still deliberating and has requested the testimonies of FBI tracing expert Joseph DeCapua and KYC/AML witness Philip Werlau.

Requesting these two testimonies is particularly interesting as Werlau had argued that Tornado Cash *could have* stopped illicit funds from entering the protocol by employing 'a central user registry' to check user's identities (i.e. KYC).

Werlau also testified that he had employed a "gas fee analysis" to determine that North Korea used the Tornado Cash UI, underlining his theory that KYC on the TC frontend would have stopped criminal proceeds.

If you want to know why this is nonsense, jump to the 30min mark in our podcast where we discuss why the gas fee analysis doesn't make sense, why it's much more likely that North Korea used a script, and what Werlau's suggestions actually would have stopped (hint: it's nothing).

I'm not a lawyer, but it seems that at least one of the jurors is not bamboozled by the Government, which should be a very good thing as juries must reach a unanimous verdict.

Very strongly disagree with this categorization for reasons you actually lay out very well in your article.

If we assume that BSA would be rolled back & not apply to stables this take would make sense to me, but i dont see that happening - esp after WH digital assets report.

Until then difference between stables and a CBDC is in name only imo.

Okay so this is not correct. The EU has not “ordered” chat control to take effect in oct. denmark made a new proposal (which isnt surprising). Theres no agreement on the proposal.

I cant find any news on this, do you have a ljnk thats not in french?

From Gemini:

Title: Bitcoin Without Internet? How Meshtastic + Bitchat Keep BTC Alive ⛓️

Here’s a look at two amazing offline communication tools and how they can team up to support Bitcoin, even if the internet goes down.

Meshtastic: The Long-Haul Network 📡

Think of this as the long-distance runner for Bitcoin data.

* What it is: A network of small, low-power radio devices using LoRa (Long Range) technology.

* Range: Can send messages over many kilometers. The mesh network lets messages "hop" between devices to go even further.

* For Bitcoin: A standard Bitcoin transaction is small enough (~200 bytes) to fit in one Meshtastic message. This makes it perfect for broadcasting transactions over a wide area, connecting different towns or regions.

Bitchat: The Local Buzz 🐝

This is your neighborhood's high-speed network for BTC.

* What it is: A decentralized chat app that uses the Bluetooth on your phone to create a local mesh network.

* Range: Best for shorter distances, like within a marketplace, neighborhood, or event.

* For Bitcoin: Perfect for exchanging transaction info quickly and reliably in dense areas where many people are close to each other.

* Note: This is different from the old "Bitmessage" protocol, which required internet.

Better Together: The Ultimate Combo 🤝

This is where the magic happens. They aren't competitors; they're teammates.

* Local Transactions: People in a town use Bitchat on their phones to exchange BTC transactions locally. It's fast and efficient.

* The Gateway: One person in the town runs a "gateway" node that has both Bitchat (Bluetooth) and Meshtastic (LoRa radio).

* The Broadcast: This gateway gathers all the local transactions from the Bitchat network and then broadcasts them out over the long-range Meshtastic network.

* Connecting the World: Other Meshtastic nodes miles away pick up these transactions, ensuring they eventually reach someone with a connection to the main Bitcoin network (like a satellite link), securing them on the blockchain.

Key Advantages 🏆

* ✅ Resilience: No single point of failure. If one node goes down, messages find another path.

* ✅ Scalability: Keeps local traffic local (Bitchat) so it doesn't clog the long-range network (Meshtastic).

* ✅ Low Power: Both technologies are designed for battery-powered devices, crucial in an outage.

By combining these two technologies, we can build a robust, multi-layered system to ensure Bitcoin remains a usable, peer-to-peer currency for everyone, everywhere, under any circumstances.

Meshtastic is cool but its not really viable in a emergency scenario unless you already have the devices

Been so caught up with the Tornado Cash trial that I never really got to tell you all how excited I am about bitchat, so here's an article I wrote on Meshnetworks and using bitcoin without the Internet three years ago.

I don't think any of us are ready for how much we'll be needing this with the way things have been going.

That was a lot more stressful than anticipated

Turns out uploading a 2h video takes longer than expected

So far we've received something like a couple hundred dollars over the course of our TC coverage so we may actually need to try out a different model lmao

not a single person has donated to our silent payment address but I'd still like to take a second to thank everyone who was involved in making silent payments happen because they are awesome and now also sync insanely fast 🫡

So a lot of people seem to have the hope that Trump will pardon the Samourai Wallet developers.

While waiting for the Storm verdict, I took some time to read through the White House Digital Asset Report to see what this administration thinks of financial privacy, and my guys - if you still believe that the Trump WH is in *any* capacity friendly to these undertakings, you are in for a very rude awakening.

nostr:nevent1qqs8l0xmfnwuce7unyqyk2wtlpps0pq8p2wdyj9s9c4ajawgh35z7csfxfmx2

Effectively, the White House urges FinCEN to deem *all* privacy measures in digital assets a “primary money laundering concern” under the PATRIOT Act.

This includes:

-> single use addresses, wallets and accounts

-> swapping between networks & chains

-> mixers, obviously

-> “pooling” or “aggregating” cryptocurrencies from multiple wallets

Many will now say: oh, but there’s so much good language in the report as well, like the protection of self-custody.

That’s true, but the protection of self-custody is contingent on the *lawful exchange* of assets between users.

That’s why the White House additionally urges Congress to *expand the PATRIOT Act* and *amend the BSA to cover “DeFi” services*.

To ensure compliance in “DeFi,” the White House suggests the implementation of digital identities, that would tie all of your transaction history to your name, so that “DeFi” services have the power to approve transactions.

Even when implemented with ZKProofs, as the White House suggests, this would effectively turn a permissionless system into a permissioned one.

I know we live in the age of celebrating all the Bitcoin wins, but sometimes things that glitter are just a massive pile of shit, my dudes.

SDNY Misrepresented CoinDesk Reporter As Tornado Cash Developer In $600M Cash Out Message 👇

https://www.therage.co/coindesk-tornado-cash-telegram-message/

Looks like the Government did a major oopsie in what can only be called one of the most incriminating pieces of evidence against Roman Storm.

In the indictment, the Government alleges that "[Pertsev] sent a message to STORM and SEMENOV through the Encrypted App, saying 'Heya, anyone around to chat about axie? Would like to ask a few general questions about how one goes about cashing out 600 mil.'"

Except that message was never authored by Pertsev - it was written by a CoinDesk reporter and only forwarded by Pertsev to the other TC developers.

The defense now demands an investigation of grand jury minutes as it claims that the Government may have misled the court.

But the Government maintains that nothing about it’s depiction was misleading, because the message proves that Storm had knowledge of the hack, which is what the prosecution intends to offer it for – “regardless of who actually typed out that message.”

As always, all filings discussed are linked in the article so you can form your own view of the situation

Send zaps if you appreciate these stories - all money previously raised is going to the reporters on the ground. ya girls gotta eat⚡️

Just heard that the judge will allow the messages from Pertsev's phone as evidence against Roman Storm. Insane if true.

NEW in Tornado Cash: Custody Issue Not Important To Storm's Defense

Every once in a while, a judge makes a decision that blows your mind by such epic proportions that you don’t even know how to caption it.

Today, Judge Failla, overseeing the prosecution of Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, effectively reinforced her September decision that it does not matter whether Tornado Cash took custody of customer funds – the developers could still be charged with licensing violations, **even though the Government is no longer arguing that Tornado Cash needed a license.**

"The word license doesn’t apply here," […] “Theres no available license to move criminal proceeds, and the jury wont be instructed that there's any licensing issues at stake."

Because of this, what senior FinCEN officials have had to say on this “isn’t exculpatory” (read: doesn’t matter): “You haven’t persuaded me that the custody issue is as important as you say.”

Honestly at a loss for words for how someone could be sent to trial to face decades in prison when not even senior employees of the regulatory agency in charge seem to know how to interpret their own guidance.

Crazytown, my guys.

Pre-crime is here baby!

After “we have closed your account because we suspect you have committed a crime,” here comes “we have closed your account because we suspect you may commit a crime in the future.”

DARPA has announced plans to launch a pre-crime AML program that attempts to stop money laundering before it happens, and it’s just as bad as it sounds.

This is the stuff that nightmares are made of.
