“ I think LLMs are overrated magic-8 ball word predictors, autonomous vehicles are mostly vaporware Potemkin technologies, and we’re never going to replace internal combustion engine cars with electric golf carts, no matter how many dumb imac screens you put in them because batteries contain 20-100x less energy density than guzzoline and the grid won’t support it. ”

No tech is inevitable! Total gem of an article in nostr:nprofile1qqs8k0mcqd6sw3h524qn5gslszt9am9knmes3uh268dgnnpv3yfwj6qpz4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezummcw3ezuer9wchsz9thwden5te0wfjkccte9ehx7um5wghxyee0qa8zq2's Bitcoin tech talk

This was a really interesting read. MS cancelling several very large capacity data centers and seems to be distancing itself from OAI. The one thing I don't think he addressed is potential efficiency gains from LLM models, but I'm not sure if they're enough for this dramatic of a pullback.

Softbank's yolo'ing into these investments feels very sketchy to me, and could lead to a huge cascade affect if it doesn't go well.

One thing that’s been really eating at me lately is the way fiat software companies are built and how backwards so many of the incentives are.

There’s little to none long term planning. Which results in tech debt, security issues, enshitification, and poor user experience, among many other issues.

I’m very interested in learning how to build a software company on a bitcoin standard and what that could look like.

Well, I wouldn’t go that far 😅 I think it’s good people are trying, but my point is that it may be a losing battle.

Personally, I don’t think this problem is solved until someone makes an OS simple enough for less technical users that can be ran on existing phones. Building a new phone from the ground up is incredibly capital intensive.

We shouldn’t just abandon mobile because tech giants control them. We need to figure out how to break their control.

I agree with you so much. Kowtowing to peoples lack of willingness to learn to do something as simple as PWAs is crazy. It could literally undermine the entire effort of Nostr.

This is a really important point.

We can’t ever fully achieve decentralization and censorship resistance while being beholden to these companies.

Smart phones are absurdly convenient and powerful, but they are closed systems with centralized power.

I definitely think Ripple is trying to position themselves as a corpo CBDC.

The good news is, the general public are so disenchanted with “crypto”, there’s no way the majority of Americans go with it.

The techbros are attempting to become the new government. I still think freedom wins long term, but have to be really careful to accept and celebrate them tearing down the current system. It deserves to get torn down, but we must not forget that leaves a massive power vacuum that attracts a new kind of parasite.

I’m very curious if Trump was convinced by the shitcoiners to include them in the SBR, or if this was his intention all along.

It doesn’t matter in the end, but I’m curious how pliable he is on this front.
