Sometimes to really aide in adding depth to you mix , while maintaining good phase relationships , use left/right equalization versus mid/side.

Is over compression hurting your mixes or productions ?! Try clip gaining first before any eq or compression . Get that balance right first , then you’ll have a much better idea of the problems that your source is giving.

Spent years chasing “perfect” mixes, tweaking for hours. Realized less is more: one good reverb bus, minimal EQ. My tracks hit harder now. Stop overthinking – trust your ears.
Think of EQ more like a volume fader , is the source to tubby , turn down the low mids , to brittle turn down the highs . Think, low , mid high.

Try not to use a template with many plugins and tons of processing. At most use a tuner, EQ with small moves, and a compressor. Maybe using some verb or delay sends, even though at this rate inserts on track with low wet to dry ratio might suffice.
Get dry vocals ( no processing ) right , then the end result gonna be better !
To me, theoretically the job of a mixing engineer, is to enhance the art and emotion presented by the artist and producer.

Using sidechain functions when mixing , is much deeper than the boots and cats edm groove. More than just sidechain kick and bass .. side chaining can be used from creative desires to clearing space for vocals to sit in a dense mix .. the world is your oyster!

I think the idea of high passing everything except kick and bass , can get a little dicey .. I’m not saying you shouldn’t high pass everything , but there’s some really useful stuff in some instruments , it’s good to really feel the high pass on everything .
