I hadn't thought about them, but interesting connection. My thoughts ran to the only thing "cooler" than that (or more dastardly or whatever), would be for Trump to get re-elected and then pardon himself!
It is true that this divinely inspired plan was in order to save lives. I just don't like that it increased the power of the pharaoh like it did. But even in this case, he only took 20% of the people's income, unlike our our modern governments that exact even moore...
The scenario reminds me of the story of Joseph as pharaoh's Vizier in the Bible, and how pharaoh ended up owning all of the land of Egypt (except for that of the priests) because The People had to sell it to him for food to survive, and in the process became his slaves.

The "Founding Fathers" often talked about how you have to watch the government and guard your liberty. "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty," Jefferson or someone once said. But is it REALLY a good system since government is ALWAYS seeking to expand it's power and thus diminish yours, i.e., your liberty? Is there a better way?

What if it's government-issued money? If it has the faces and signatures of government officials on it and says it's a Federal Reserve note or is otherwise issued by a central bank?
