Expensive relays are best way to go in my opinion big relays with huge trafic would cost more but you would have bigger audience. But everyone can start relay. Market competition would drive price per event down. And there will be free relays with ads. I guess.
Another monetization possibility is selling user data to ai companies but I’m not fan of such concept and wouldn’t use that relay. Relay operators can do what they want with data.
There is no incentive for relay operators. Guys from plebstr team want to implement similar model as tweetoshi had. There is also something called “expensive relay” (didn’t tried it) and that is interesting model imho. Basically user would pay for storing his data and every action (event) would have cost. I imagine that user would send some sats as credit to relay operator and than he could store certain amount of events on relay.

Another ideal: hide zap button and allow users unlock it by typing “secret code” somewhere in settings. like in querko. Tell Apple it is for unlocking “debug mode” or something like that.
