It's called the NIP-05, and it really makes identification easier.
If you see an account, with the profile picture you know, name you know and even the posts you know, can you be sure it's the same account?
No, you cant. You should check the npub, but thats really long and confusing to check or remember. Thats where NIP-05 comes in!
The npub is linked, via a domain, to a short, easy to remember and check identification. This way you can make sure you really know who you are communicating with.
It's not flawless, but it's better then the npub.

Can't relays or clients ignore more then 1 repost or like from the same npub?
Would make sense to ignore any likes more then one from the same user, my guess is iris does this.
Yeah just tested. You can make a huge json with all different names and the same npub. They will all be valid. You can just switch with any name in the json on your profile.

If you want to change the name, just send me a message! I can change it for you!
My guess is you can have multiple names with the same npub in the files so you can switch around. Your profile will carry the one you put into your profile.
And you can switch whenever you want, or edit the name in the JSON file.
So it's a plus if you control that yourself, but can always ask someone to change.

Yeah I see them to. Guess its to test the function or something. Cant find anything on one of the accounts, no notes.
If you add one which is not found it wont work or show as invalid. The server you refer to needs to have a nostr.json file with your name + hex public key in it.
