Every instinct Trump has is bad for America. Nothing he’s promising to do will help any of the voters he’s trying to attract. It’s incredible. He’s the least competent cretin imaginable with the worst possible ideas. It doesn’t make sense that there would be this many profoundly stupid people in the country.

The problem with so much of political journalism is that there really isn’t enough quality news to report on. The result is constant repetition and endless speculation.

It’s a job. They have to write something.

How does the shooting in Prague happen? This was the essence of multiple headlines today.

Easy. Just one nut case with access to a weapon that can do massive damage in a short amount of time. There’s no way to stop a crazy person with a semi-automatic weapon, until they stop to reload.

What’s the answer? Don’t have guns lying about for crazy people to find. We all have crazy people. We just shouldn’t give them easy access to guns.

Learn from us. Save yourselves.

I don’t know shit about AI. I’m sure it’s not all bad, but I don’t like much of what I’ve seen thus far. Bad writing and bad art. I’m fine if it makes a better thermostat, but let’s leave art out of it.

You know all those Americans who hoard AR-15s because they think they’ll one day need them to take on the US government? Ask Hamas how that’s working out for them.

The US Military could take any territory it wanted despite nearly any resistance. How long would your town last against constantly shelling, tanks, artillery, drones, cruise missles, and a few battalions of Marines?

It’s beyond absurd.

Let me tell you something. Used books are SUCH a good deal. I buy plenty of new releases from authors I like and want to support, but sometimes I’m looking for an old book and won’t pay full price. I’ll just do without. Lately, even my local library doesn’t even have them, digital or otherwise.

But I just bought two old Calvin Trillin books in great condition, one hardcover and one soft, for like $6.

Books, what a marvel.

I think the main attraction AI holds for so many people is NOT that it will produce highly-original content, but that it will produce professional-looking content, cheaply.

It merely needs to be passable, not original. They’re fine if it looks and sounds like everyone else. To them, that’s a win. That’s more than they had.

What they will end up with, is hack design and hack writing. Regurgitated tripe. Most won’t care.

The opportunity will be for those who can afford the real thing.

Look, I know he’s just a comedian, but I swear we must read from the same news sources, because he is always spot on in breaking down current events and their absurdity. I just start sending his shit to my family.

nostr:npub1xpcqmx422lf6cm6nzup53vfsfvyz7pjfarwdklj3apxaggjtdqmqg03t05 I was thinking of events like this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sullivan_Expedition

of course it's gotten much worse over time and definitely WWII was a huge escalation of these tactics.

nostr:npub1mkwdjwujq06rq4sevrj6dm6hser8ud8k6tjtedy5xgq3ah826kzqu9nk5z That was the genocide of a group they didn’t feel were fully human. They weren’t considered civilians or soldiers. Put simply, it wasn’t a war. They were collateral damage.

Looting, raping and pillaging has long been a factor of war. It wasn’t until after WWII that the world even TRIED to create some rules. Not that everyone follows them.

This was published today. It touches on the same topics.

I’m old enough to remember hockey players playing with no helmets. That’s pretty nuts.

I guess I’ve hit the age where suddenly a random bruise will appear somewhere on your body for no discernible reason. What the fuck is that all about? #OldPeopleOfMastodon

I think if I wasn’t so lazy, I’d be getting serious about emigrating somewhere.

Does anyone know if they’re going to try to vote again tonight? For a new speaker?

Yep. The rest of the world must be in awe of our leadership of democracy. A real shining city on a hill.

Hey, I have an idea. What if members of both parties got together and passed a bunch of bills containing shit they all agreed on, rather than stonewalling the opposition on principle? Crazy, right?

My Congressman, the dishonorable Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) was a lifelong Democrat until he switched parties and pledged his “undying loyalty” to Trump. His excuse? He was a moderate and the Democratic Party had become too extreme. So the moderate that he is, became a MAGA Republican, like you do when you’re a moderate.

He was always a Nazi in hiding. I voted against him when he was a Democrat. Pro gun. Anti green energy. Homophobic. He’s a useless twat.

There is a case to be made that we are watching the 2016 election unfold all over again, only the positions have been reversed. It’s the Republicans who are blind to the reality. https://medium.com/rome-magazine/republicans-are-headed-for-an-epic-wipeout-their-own-bcf1833ccdfb

The thing that almost everyone gets annoyed with when it comes to politics is the gamesmanship. It’s what most people consider “politics” to be and what they don’t like.

As opposed to the everyday business of running a country, county, or community.

The government shutdown is grandstanding. Nothing more.

I’m a little burned out, I’m afraid, on the idea of writing for acknowledgement or reward. The pressure to maintain a steady stream of creative output is unrelenting.

The good news is simply don’t have to do anything.

I just don’t make any money.
