New song from @konkonband, in a rehearsal session! This is a great new band to keep an eye on:

I think it’s a mistake to think that more volume = hearing more details. You should be able to hear everything clearly at extremely low volumes, such that turning the volume way up just feels like dialing something up that isn’t necessary at all, and is just increasing hearing damage.

My current position is that if your equipment/setup is good enough, you shouldn’t need to raise the volume of headphones/earbuds above 30%.

There were a ton of music albums that I thought sounded flat and uninspired that just turned out to be me using a horrible audio setup that was flat and uninspired 😳

Here are the three songs that I’ll be sharing with Wave Potter tomorrow on his livestream:

Let me know if anything in particular stands out, there’s probably a lot more that’s similar!

Almost 100% Japanese rock: Oh No Darkness!!, tone spoon, Shiranui, Band-Maid, Suspended 4th, rillrail, Polkadot Stingray, Mizuni Ukikusa, Kikiaiai, Kappaminus, Gordon, Blume Popo, Ameiro Sunset, ReoNa, Passepied, Buxus

My equipment for listening to music in a way that I really enjoy is the following:

ancient iMac (iTunes with Sound Enhancer on the highest setting) > custom USB DAC (Burr-Brown Japan PCM2702) > Grado iGe3 earbuds

IMO the most important part is choosing good music to listen to! I don’t have any experience listening to audiophile-quality equipment that is more expensive, but I have played instruments and been around live music for 10 years and my setup is starting to approach a live sound.

Damn it, I was clearly using the wrong size eartips again. I’ve only had these earbuds for…3 years 😂
