I recently had a large tree removed. It was quite close to my house. When they removed it, I'm glad that the tree professionals did NOT go straight for the root immediately. Had they chosen that method, the tree would have fallen on my or a neighbor's house.
They carefully dismantled the tree branch by branch, lowering each to the ground. Then, they cut the trunk into large discs, and finally, they ground the stump to the rotten roots.
It's a true story, and also an allegory.

Yes indeed. This has been a PITA, honestly. I'm definitely going to spend the money on a real thermometer. 
It's not. I'm just using the camera to check the ambient temp periodically instead of going outside.

My home's WiFi. The old phone is connected to WiFi, my laptop upstairs is also on WiFi. In a few minutes, I'll report back on the results from the office WiFi.
Also worth noting, my laptop is on a VPN, and it still works.
Keet and an old phone work pretty well as a smoker temp monitor. Not as good as buying the dedicated networked thermometer, but passable for available equipment.
