I unfortunately believe that truly private social networking will forever be a dead end. There are too many attack vectors that can undermine privacy, such as rogue nodes that collect IPs, accidental data leakage by users in their posts, stolen private keys, etc.
If you value peace of mind & privacy, don’t use any Internet networking ever. The Internet is a live wire that usually has more downsides than upsides, especially in an age of AI where an intelligent model can encode most if not all of the useful information on the web today.

FYI everyone, Nostr doesn’t allow you to delete notes. Why? In a decentralized social network, once a message is broadcast, it is propagated throughout the network independently by various nodes. There’s no such thing as “deleting” because it isn’t a central server operated by one entity that can just delete the post for everybody (like traditional social media companies). It raises an interesting question of how to maintain privacy in the long-term, especially in cases where sensitive data is knowingly or unknowingly shared. Perhaps Nostr should implement stronger anonymity protections so that a user is fully anonymous besides the content of their posts.
