I'm looking for a good privacy focused AI assistant to help me sort through classify + organise the around 50,000 photos and videos that I have lying around on hard drives and in the cloud. I don't trust google and don't want to upload to any old website - though I also use #flickr -any good suggestions?

#AskFedi Does not have to be #FOSS, also prepared to pay for good tool that is also private!

You're very welcome - I thought it was really very insightful and I really like your writing, it's pin sharp - always takes me ages to write anything that clear!

My eventual post is here btw:

I run a site at https://fedi.tips which is full of guides aimed at beginners. There's a "quick start" section at the very top which links to the most essential tips, plus a complete index under it.

There's also other guides I've linked to at https://fedi.tips/what-do-i-do-next-are-there-any-other-guides-to-mastodon-and-the-fediverse/

Heh, funny to see some very familiar #Scientist names listed like film stars.

#Interact is such a cool idea though, I imagine this series northwards will be very good. Ht nostr:npub1pevp2zaafyz09jkll9zwhmj605wx00v0rnueq8x4np3q2hflrx9s28kyx4

The only reason I still have #GoogleChrome installed on my laptop is because I need it to log in to #Microsoft Sharepoint.

nostr:npub14k23hl0c7a0ecs42wndgxg4l7w9ve03jtdlg48hvj93zdtq2cf9q3ted68 Fwiw, this is about the same price as here in Cambridge UK, though garage rent is way higher.

When I complained about this, I compared the costs to a yearly bus pass and commercial car park charges. I also made the point that EVs take up just as much of the public highway and shouldn't receive a discount.

nostr:npub105955g40jks026wlyecptdcsqaf5t0ep5pl6cgqu95qxpeapm2rqj89pe2 Well exactly..

My kid pays the annual amount for an efficient car *per month* for a public transport pass...

nostr:npub14k23hl0c7a0ecs42wndgxg4l7w9ve03jtdlg48hvj93zdtq2cf9q3ted68 if you can afford to buy/hp, that is not going to touch the sides.

Your permits seem to be about air quality more than anything.

nostr:npub14k23hl0c7a0ecs42wndgxg4l7w9ve03jtdlg48hvj93zdtq2cf9q3ted68 I can’t work to classical music, my brain listens in too much, but thrashing guitars are fine 😁🤷. Good luck with the writing, and hopefully funding.

nostr:npub10fpadr4kdrqx7eqcky05re2y59mr2gzelty4m83y3mudvy2yn9xqmkyqp8 oh this is writing a report on what we did... far less interesting!

I think it's a really nice example of how you can combine very diverse datasets, which at first might not seem to have much to do with each other, to get a deep understanding of a key process. First, nostr:npub15msezz84z85g06h6tz7xuyml08t6cxpxrlltpnfjvap9ecd3mmgsfethcv used a published database of crevasses based on a satellite DEM over the Arctic (#ArcticDEM), combined this with temperatures from the new very high resolution regional #Climate reanalysis (#CARRA), plus ice thickness data from #BedMachine + #IceVelocity data from many many #satellites

nostr:npub189k82e9p7r70huc3sxfd7nnrxvqdxnm9ulvv4xnawcjw2qef9djsx6yu5p am almost literally 🤬😡🤬 with this one. What a pointless waste.

nostr:npub10r22zfd5vhjqaajmjn59ua30t4rh7zdezkguenzzf7sflajj832sl0w6yx I’m looking for a “research day” topic for work at the Danish Royal Library. It has to be work-relevant and dataset themed. And we just happen to hold the Danish national webarchive. I’m getting an idea here (and if it turns into a shitstorm I’m blaming nostr:npub14k23hl0c7a0ecs42wndgxg4l7w9ve03jtdlg48hvj93zdtq2cf9q3ted68 for giving me the idea!).

Some people* really have too much time on their hands. But the end result is this really rather marvellous tour of different #dataviz that will alternately have you laughing, crying and quite possibly feeling a little nauseous. You've been warned. Now off you go to take a look..

I've been saying this for years.. (more or less, the title is a bit misleading).

Astoundingly good book from nostr:npub1cazdtvf88zu2j56zq6vzh2mzcjt99my5exdafswany47nlp9yggq50vv9e - I really savoured this one. the title #AnImmenseWorld is not wrong - I wondered as I started it just how much you can write about how animals sense the world. It turns out you can write a lot and every single page glimmers with wonder, delight, new insights and knife sharp writing.

I enjoyed his previous book very much too, but this is book of the year if not book of the decade territory.

Simply superb.

TIL that *in spite* of there being a synthetic alternative, biomedical companies are still catching and bleeding live #HorseshoeCrabs for use in research to detect bacteria.

Now, I'm not a biologist, perhaps there are some uses for which that blood is genuinely irreplaceable, and perhaps you really can kill/destroy tens of thousands of horseshoe crabs for it each year, without affecting overall species abundance.

Habsburg AI: #MachineLearning models fed on input that has been produced by other ML models...

A beautiful yermt I learned from nostr:npub1hykucplphuhelaxutcw4jw3vuu7gcg42czhqmk7jhchs8vdga4fsj73p33 showing why #GIGO (garbage in, garbage out) also explains why dictators can't rely on #AI to detect stirrings of revolt.

As always, worth a read.
