> about me

it was about hussy

> thumbs up

actually I favorited it. I favorite all sorts of posts including lots that I disagree with. soapbox (or maybe rebased?) converts those to thumbs up emojis. at least for me those don't have the same semantic meaning but the software does what it does

tl;dr you've been gleasonated

if you pay a node to host content for you then queries to it don't need to do a bunch of hops, indirections, block lookups, etc. you just ask the specified address (ie centralized server) for the object and it sends it back to you immediately because it has the entire thing sitting there because that's what you paid them for

you could literally reuse existing ipfs http relays for this. set one up that only fulfills queries for stuff it has pinned locally and then charge to pin stuff on it. I'm not saying that's a particularly elegant solution but it would work at which point I'm really wondering what the point of nostr is in this scenario

it's an interesting proof of concept and I think it's a good idea. nostr just seems like a distinctly inferior protocol when it comes to file hosting

1. reinvent redundant CDN service except NOSTR!!!11

2. it's free

3. wait that's not sustainable. relays start charging

4. oh look it's back to being a paid CDN

seems like the only upside here is that migrating between vendors is transparent because it's the equivalent of paying someone to seed a torrent for you. of course the obvious downside is that anyone can jump in and host your stuff and in so doing sample your traffic

I don't see why a solution where you pay for speed couldn't be implemented on top of ipfs. but then http relays for ipfs already exist and could be paid to serve your content quickly. and that protocol seems better suited to the task

truly mozilla, just go fuck yourselves

the next time you guys have a genius idea to add to the browser, stop. don't. turns out you guys are really bad at this

instead of adding stuff how about you try removing the previous "good ideas"? you could start with whatever the most recent one was and work backwards. if you keep that up for a few years the quality of the browser should be greatly improved

Straight ALSA works fine with everything but firewire attached sound cards, so just don't add bloat on top of ALSA pretty much.
