Im also very impressed with Collings. My dad has a 25 year old Collings OM, the finish on the neck got damaged during a fret job so Collings asked for the guitar to be shipped to them, they did an adhesion test and concluded that the finish was defective and they repaired it for free. this was recent. top-notch folks.

Here you can see all the woods used in construction: sinker redwood top, East Indian rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck, ebony fretboard.

The redwood top comes from ancient old growth redwoods that were harvested before 1860. In those days they would float lumber down the Klamath river, and inevitably some of the logs got jammed and sunk in the river. These sunken logs of 1000 year-old redwoods have been sitting in the Klamath river for hundreds of years developing mineralization from the river sediment. The appearance is truly beautiful in person, unlike any guitar top I've ever seen.

The sound is clearer than spruce but with a slightly dialed back low end. It rings like a bell. incredibly clear articulation that lends itself great to fingerstyle guitar, which is what I bought it for. It listed for $3999 retail, but is no longer in stock anywhere. For those wondering, it is totally worth the price tag.
