I assume you went to college in the 2000's like me. The world was a very different place. People looked at me like I'm a weird nerd when I said I want to major in computer science.

The years after the dotcom bubble popped computer science was seen as undesirable because so many programmers had gotten laid off. Even my parents tried to discourage me from studying computer science.
