Today's platforms are monetized through ads, which is why they incentivize "influencers," cultivate our ADHD and crush our souls. We need open source tools that enable us to clear away the distractions and the dopamine hits and find the content that will enrich our lives. Interact with the people we want. Find those needles in the haystack. This is what web of trust will enable us to do.

The goal is to give you, the user, the ultimate authority over the algos that you use. You should have the ability to be as hands on or hands off as your heart desires. Manage the algos yourself. Or pick the people who manage them for you. Or pick the people who pick the people who pick the people (etc ad infinitum) who manage the algos.

Just did my first day.

Sometimes I wonder what a world would look like if everyone had a magic wand to make them invulnerable to attack of any sort. Then there would be no need for the state or protection agencies or whatever. Maybe this is the utopia that anarchists yearn for? Obviously this is impossible. But perhaps it is possible to move in that direction by giving us tools so we can better protect ourselves. One might even say that this is precisely the reason that Freedom Tech exists.

Nostr, Lists and Web of Trust

My 15-minute presentation at Nostrville, Bitcoin Park, Nov 2023

I’m optimistic bc I think I can see exactly how it can be done — see the url in my bio to the 30 min presentation I made about 2 years ago. Am in the process of writing a paper now with my updated thoughts.

Human nature is what it is. I think honey badger’s gonna win in the end, but if it doesn’t, we can’t go blaming human nature. Bitcoin either wins in the real world or it doesn’t.

And as we build solutions, we have to take human nature into account.

Personally, I think decentralized web of trust is going to be the dark horse that works synergistically with bitcoin and changes everything.

Bitcoin: permissionless, anti-statist money.

Decentralized WoT: permissionless, anti-statist flow of information

There are too many people who just don’t seem to know that. Or they do but just (understandably) don’t all have the time to learn what they need to learn to do self custody.

Honey badger will win in the long run if we can do a better job of incentivizing self custody. Self custody needs to be sufficiently easy, more useful and more profitable than custodial.

Hopefully, we’ll be able to minimize the collateral damage.

They’re parasites. Looking on the bright side, nature teaches us that the most successful parasites are the ones that turn into symbiotes. So maybe it’s not all bad.

I fear the ETFs are going to be FTX all over again. Except Larry Fink, Jamie Dimon and Brian Armstrong are 10x sharper and savvier than SBF.

Anyone know how to do a back of the envelop calculation of how much stranded energy exists in the US?
