That’s the paradox though. How does one value something which can be replicated at a near zero cost.
That is basically what I did except for I just made the content static instead of using a cloudflare worker.
I just tested using Wallet of Satoshi and it worked!
Using nostr:npub1ex7mdykw786qxvmtuls208uyxmn0hse95rfwsarvfde5yg6wy7jq6qvyt9 however it claims the address is invalid. I can see in the logs that it makes the request and gets a 200.
"GET /.well-known/lnurlp/rossbates HTTP/1.1" 200 309 "-" "zap/1.0"
In addition to Strike not working, CashApp and Muun don’t appear to support using lnurl.
Glad this is staying a civil but spirited debate because it's an interesting philosophical argument.
On one hand people shouldn't expect privacy in a public space, that is true both online and offline. If however, in physical space I followed you around 24/7 and provided commentary on every comment you made, you would want to punch me in the face.
For a moment let's set aside the technical responses such as: encrypt your messages, or run your own private relay. That kinda defeats the purpose of participating in a public network.
So, is the act of someone programatically categorizing your content a form of harassment? Would providing an opt out mechanism satisfy both parties?
When it comes to proof via GitHub, I’d prefer to see a dev who knows how to document, communicate, manage a project (even if it’s 1-2 people). A bunch of code doesn’t tell you much. Good development requires good communication. The only exception is if you are the only user *and* developer.
The other winning indicator is referrals. People won’t recommend someone which might in turn reflect poorly on themselves.
MongoDB is web scale. If that’s what they need to do to get those kick ass benchmarks, then it’s a great design 😂
Sure, but if it’s adoption we are looking for we have to be honest about how many people will understand this, let alone go through the process of using it. Which begs the question, are there lots of people out there who care about portable identity in the first place?
Not much risk if you never want to use other apps, but the real value is unlocked when you can use the profile on lots of apps. Each new app you use however incrementally increases your risk.
Ideally you could be wild and free out there signing notes without a care in the world, but storing your key in a password manager can’t give you that.
Can’t argue with you there, It’s a single point of failure and a genuine concern I personally have about my own profile.
This… and I’d pay a fortune for threading that works across clients 😂
Absolutely, people will pay for some combo of personalization, vanity, scarcity etc… Gaming has proven this.
This is also why I think the number one value prop for nostr is that you own your identity. All the time and money you spend on making it yours belongs to you.
Value add services on top of this might disappear, but your profile still belongs to you.
Totally, freemium works when you have features or utilities people want. But if the base use case is social media it’s harder to provide a value add layer to “talk with other people on the internet”
The conversation nobody wants to have is that the only business model which works for free products and services is advertising. (this includes affiliate marketing and other transactional fees)
Closely related, when people have a free alternative vs a paid one, they will choose the free one. No amount of VC funding or grants will change this.

My guess is that it won’t work cross-domain but I’ll ask around and see if we can’t get some clarity
Can people create their own lightning address alias which resolves to a different lnurlp provider? nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg or nostr:npub1ex7mdykw786qxvmtuls208uyxmn0hse95rfwsarvfde5yg6wy7jq6qvyt9 ?? nostr:note1pusy4fpl94w0uzeevhnnsggnw405uzl878kdn7kxq6yj45sz45esa2sfc5
I tried copying the lnurlp payload into my own .well-known path and sending a payment to it. It didn’t work using Strike, the error was invalid lightning address.
Hmm, yeah I’ve never dug into this but it seems possible. This is the current address on my account
https://primal.net/.well-known/lnurlp/cornflowereagle1
Wondering if I can host my own and point it to the lnurlp callback url. Does a provider accept redirects from arbitrary outside domains?
Interesting, thank you for the explanation. I noticed the topic seemed to disappear quickly.
I use rossbates@nostr.id for my nip-05 validation, but not lightning. Are you looking to get a lightning address for nostr, or are you looking to use the domain for a lightning address alias?
So….I’m not well versed in Brazilian politics, what types of accounts are being censored on Twitter? Are any of those users moving to nostr?
