What is the best way or sites to get a 10-yr old into coding a bit, just to have fun and start learning..?

I feel like perhaps we’re being quick to try and decentralise everything and store all config, data or state in published Nostr events by default 😟

The cross app support Nostr enables is awesome - but it comes with an insane privacy cost. Worse than todays social networks. Are we building something worse?

A public following list is fine. But I want a private one too. I want private lists. I want private block lists or mutes. I want private bookmarks. I want private connected relays. And so on.

The current client app approach is basically ‘give the government a direct event feed for everything you do or have, in a nice standardise format for them to process’.

We really need to rethink the public first mindset in Nostr clients. Most data can be synced using iCloud or something that’s not public - and made public by choice by the user as needed. You can even store the data as Nostr events locally without publishing if you like that format.

Let’s not build a privacy nightmare..

This is caused by the confusion spread by some who call every LN tip now a "zap".

Or others who say "just get a LN address so I can zap you".

Don't know if they're not aware of the difference, or if they're half-lying to spread zap adoption, but the effects are the same.

Def a lot to unpackage and to think abt, not just based on technical implications, but also principles and impact. I don’t have an answer but here are some thought processes :

1. It helps to keep track of who you follow / follows you - but this doesn’t have to public

2. It helps to show if the profile page you view indicates ‘follows you’

3. It’s normal to do profile check before you follow.

- Who they are, interest, communication behaviour (as it impacts your feed and notification).

- On Twitter you see whom among those you follow, follows this person. This is good because you build your own tribe.

- On Iris, you can hover over the colour badge and see the # instead.

- Externally there is linkedin, Google search. As pretentious and grossed out linkedin is, often it builds trust and confidence (as opposed to if you are a ‘nobody’)

However, crowd persuasion can also be dangerous

- You fuel in narcissism of a populist

- You fuel in the need to want to be a populist

- you also see this in leadership, religion, cults and it can be used for good and bad

Are there benefits in being a populist ?

- It’s gonna be harder to bully someone who has access to a large crowd.

- You get to push a mission forward faster.

- But once it becomes centralised controlled, it can get harmful

For influencer, populist

- Numbers and metrics sells.

- As Nostr grows, content creation becomes crucial.

I think there is just so to think abt - would be risky to come to a conclusion quickly. I also think #[3] would be the best to share with us on his thoughts between regular usage vs what influencers seek, whereby the latter can also be adapted for artist payments, commerce, crowdfunding etc
