Here's a handy heuristic or rule of thumb:

If it's AI and you're not paying money to interact? Datamining/training scam.

If it's AI and you're paying to interact? Just a regular scam.

Please do not be the sort of turniphead that does these companies work for free.

"The idea that you’re not actually allowed to give your employees nervous breakdowns"

That hits close to home. "Performance managing" people out of a job seems much more the go-to response.

AI company relies on exploiting humans. I'm shocked, sh... well... kind of expecting it in honesty. "Whose training the models?"

nostr:npub1xl7jpmgl8yc7pjunytkemq04gan8cmarkewjmuwk2wz4ysyuaevq2esxzx - New from me and @josephcox: buzzy AI company that turns 2d sketches into 3d models with "magic" has actually been using 3d artists in developing countries, who have a goal of delivering an asset to a client 15 minutes after they request it:

I had breakfast there. 😋 I think I had gravy and biscuits because in En (Traditional) that sounds buck wild.

It was notably good for the price (which was low!) But this was 2016, so perhaps things have changed.

Computer games have improved human reflexes. Modern gamers have better reflexes than 1950s jet pilots.

Obviously modern jet pilots have better reflexes than middle aged history bloggers so we don't tend to notice, but poor old flies aren't ready for this change.

Conservation, keeping things that are valuable and important and unique.

Conservatism, destroying the above to make line go up.

Looks like the latter have run out of things that the former don't care about.

Still thinking about the guy who said

"Wow... Mastodon is so much _less_ straight white cis men (then Twitter (which I loved) or Facebook." (emphasis added).

It really just illustrates how centralised social media corrals us into echo chambers. We click and get more of the same. With some rage bait thrown in.

I hadn't seen Jack's answer, but it's the kind of thing that you have to get used to thinking about.

Generally being interested in everything X Good Research skills = 30% of GMing

Humans have some resistance to prion disease from eating other human brains like kuru, due apparently to widespread cannibalism in pre- historic humans. Sadly no resistance to the cow version because cows wouldn't do that in the wild.

As Illithids must infect brains to reproduce, it seems likely that they'd have evolved some resistance but it's hard to be sure.

Hope that helps!

The starting attributes aren't that important though? One is more interested in starting _skills_ which are softcapped by attribute as they cost more to increase.

Edges are the most important thing in the game.

Then skills.

Then attributes.

And with the skills, arguably a D6 is a wasted skill point. D4 or D8 because you're already rolling D6s for everything. It helps but it's better to have another skill avoiding -2 or get the D8 probability.

Important thread attached.

nostr:npub12fgf9lhwx603kmm8a8xwuws7l3h3wf473mr5km05erzxuagg2fms673tls - A thread about the extreme anomaly in Antarctic sea-ice extent this year, the present state of knowledge on the reasons for it and why further research is important.

I find the sharp downward trend in Antarctic sea-ice extent that started 7 years ago deeply unsettling, which is why I toot about it a lot.
