Yet another Linux Walt account

Yeah, I’d be a lot less leery about them if (1) there were 10+ competitors at similar scale and many more at smaller scales; and (2) CF shielded sites weren’t so actively hostile to Tor.

I remember when you could get commonly used vacuum tubes at the drugstore. [1]

They had a tester machine, so you would pull them the tube out of your TV or radio, test it, and get a replacement right there.

[1] Thrifty Drug stores in SoCal. I don’t remember them at Sav-On Drug Stores, their main competitor.

Hey, if you want your pjuu.com data, you need to download it quickly. Site closes in under 30 days.

That all depends on where you are in SoCal. Where I lived, they don’t like San Francisco or Sacramento, or the political extremists who control the state of California, but didn’t seem to talk about Trump much at all.

I have not used AI yet, but I would like to see it automate away mental drudgery in the same way that I would like to see robots and machinery automate away the most physically exhausting tasks.

That stinks. That sort of political stuff—advocating for a specific point of view—doesn’t belong in classrooms below high school or even college.

Hopefully the school board is willing to listen and make sure the teachers don’t misuse their position to promote their own agendas.

E2EE isn’t enough. Businesses risk their data because of the organization controlling the LLM on the other end of the connection. All encryption does is ensure the data isn’t intercepted on the way.

Can you talk a little bit about what your organization does differently once the data reaches the AI chatbot?

> The old Nostr ā€œTelegramā€ client …

I don’t remember that one. But I never used the real Telegram anyway, so I don’t know what it would be like.

I did use web-based Nostrgram a couple of times with a temporary key. I also have never set up zaps, so I would have missed that issue anyway.

Does anyone have a ten second explanation of what olas is?

That should be ā€œElon won’t turn your reach *up*ā€ … last time I logged in, everyone I didn’t want to see were being pushed into my timeline.

> your path in the Fediverse … incompatible with SocialHub values.

WTF. These are the same guys who are trying to drive ā€œAā€ out for trying to fix the sloppy AP specification.

Those are all nicknames or common names. If you’re trying to be specific, you have to learn some scientific names because many common names are used for multiple unrelated species.

In the case of daddy longlegs, Wikipedia says there are spiders, non-spider arachnids, and those crane flies that are all referred to by that name.

Is Seattle one of the places where they have an underground zone because an earthquake sunk their buildings? I think that would be cool to see.

I saw something that claimed Farcaster had around 45,000 daily active users as of 3 months ago. Having also seen a bunch of whining about the FC’s growth rate versus Nostr’s growth rate, I wonder what Nostr’s estimated active daily user count is.

Recognizing that there shouldn’t be any accurate way to measure that, and thus growth rate estimates will always be inaccurate.

I have not tried FC, but my impression is that they are pretty centralized in some ways. (And likewise for BlueSky; current design is intentionally centralized)
