I'm a web developer & teacher. I've been coding since the '80s, making websites since the '90s and self-employed since the '00s. I live in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, with my German wife and our two sons. I enjoy reading, writing, travelling, playing zelda, minecraft, and chess. I try to live according to daoist & buddhist principles. My interests include cozy gaming, decluttering, neurodivergence, burnout, climate, economics, linux, svelte, and the pragmatic use of overhyped LLMs. he/him

I'm just looking for a b-tree #javascript library, but this library author is using his platform to raise awareness for the Ukrainian war. I'm all for that but jesus christ I was not expecting to have to look at dead bodies while trying to get some work done today.

Don't click unless you're ok seeing photos of corpses.. seriously! https://github.com/qwertie/btree-typescript

"What's that? You just wanted a B+ tree? Well, you're in for a treat."

😨

When you get used to #AI predicting a lot of things for you (using cursor, for example), it adds a kind of overhead to everything else you do, where you have to sort of remember whether or not the AI is about to help you or not.

Like, when I'm writing an email in gmail, I have to remember that the AI is going to suggest a few words for me, but it's not going to suggest broader edits or help me with formatting, for example. It feels like new friction where there wasn't any before.

"Top scientists leverage their domain knowledge to prioritize promising #AI suggestions, while others waste significant resources testing false positives"

I reckon this is true for #developers too. Those with more experience can quickly decide whether a suggestion is going to work or not, can jump in to make manual adjustments with ease, and get the most out of it. For junior developers, it's harder for them to distinguish between a perfect answer and a problematic one.

"Wow, the value of my house has gone up so much since I bought it!"

No, the value has probably stayed about the same or maybe decreased. The price has gone up. The value of money is decreasing. It's all very counterintuitive and hard to fathom.
