many of the clients implement the list of known users by users you have seen recently. far from perfect but it's a performance optimization. I think nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s has talked about this how host nostrdb project can help with this.

Don’t ever use services like Okta, you’re better off writing your own implementation. There is nothing good to come of handing over security concerns to a third party.

Moore's law won't hold forever. not understanding performance will leave alot of developers in a bad place when they can't rely on vertical scaling to fix their shitty code.
