Planted a bunch of seeds today in our new mini hoop tunnel. Totsoi, kametsuna, spinach, smooth spinach, Tecas Early Grano onion, Japanese giant red mustard, rhubarb kale, and butter crunch lettuce. All but the last are planted in a 4x4 grid, spaced 8 inches apart. The lettuce is in three wide rows

Just added 693 lbs of rotten cantaloupe to our compost pile #compost #gardening

Can anyone tell me what's going on with these leafy greens #garden #permaculture
Something is caused many of the small white gnats that live in the greenhouse to die, I found a bunch floating on water surface of my top grow bed
I just arrived at the farm, as usual the fish pond had stopped flowing. The water level was lower than the outflow pipe, so I angled it down to restart the cycle. I'm going to need to add about 2 in of water to the top tank.
Our tilapia pond has a mysterious leak, I'm losing about 1" of water per day.
Water ppm 375 dissolved solids, pH around 8.0
This morning we removed the last of the plastic weed barrier on the farm. We also hauled off a bunch of weeds that had gone to seed, and would not have been ideal for composting. I also mulched a bunch of overgrowth in our pollinator garden, chop and drop style, in preparation for winter dormancy. Next, I am going to go harvest as many seas from the pollinator garden as is possible using our small vacuum to collect the many Asteracea seeds.
For sure! Arizona pomegranates in this particular case, though Ive been considering something like a community propagation drive where our team goes around prepping trees to take cuttings to plant here at the farm
What season is best for air layering trees? I had thought winter dormancy was the time, and my pomegranates have just lost all their leaves. Do I do it now or wait till spring or something? #asknostr #gardening #trees #botany
Just got done tearing up the last of the weed barrier before the end of the season. The fields will need to be plowed up, and lots of fertilizer is going in. I'm hoping to avoid weed barrier next season, but I guess that will depend on what plants we end up adding in that area
Check in here at the farm about half an hour ago. I brought a bunch of expired food from home, and got it mixed in with the compost. There's also quite a bit of partially decomposed rabbit bedding. Muffins I brought were particularly moldy, I hope it's a beneficial variety.
I got to the farm 2 hours ago, just before 1:00. The first thing I did was get the pump running for the fish again. After that, I assisted our garden manager and calculating the square footage of various fields. We use this information to determine how much mill organite and gypsum would be needed to fertilize each area. We also calibrated our rotary spreader. Now, we are working on removing weed barrier
While shutting off the water that had been feeling the fish tank, I noticed that many of the plants on the table were not receiving water from the overhead sprinklers. I proceeded to water all of these trays with a can and water from the fish tank. Following this I went to water the worms, but found that I had no water supply on my usual hose. I used fish tank water to hydrate the worms as well
Arrival - 12:12 PM
Water added to tank -
Estimated at .5 ft of depth, and a surface area of 36.3 sqft, that was about 136 gallons replaced
7.5 gal/cuft
Total tank volume 1.66*3.4²*π =60.29 cuft = 452 gallons
I thought this tank was much bigger, I need to double check all my math.
I got here at the farm at some point in time about an hour ago. I found the water pump for the aquaponics tank to be in a failure mode so I proceeded to troubleshoot. My first assumption was that the float switch had tripped, but on resetting the motor still did not resume. Next I disassembled the motor and found that the rubber impeller had melted, and the motor was seized. I cleaned all of the rubber residue and installed a new impeller. While these repairs were in progress, I added water directly to the fish tank.
Superb Beardtongue (Penstemon superbus)
