Just for sure follow this community.

I think we were, initially, uncertain about how we need to onboard on Nostr and that has produced the confusion, and since Kapow is the head of Ex-Heads and the original moderator, him using the name seems fine.

Also funny is how wigglehard's former avatar and the freeforum avatar is now the avatar of the Exploding Heads community on Nostr.

Donald Trump Arrested by Fulton County Sheriff’s Office - Mugshot Taken!

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/08/24/donald-trump-arrested-fulton-county-sheriffs-office/

There is talk of him taking his motorcade to the Fulton County jail for processing.

What is really shocking is how insane this situation is:

>The indictment does not fundamentally concern actions taken in Georgia, but describes words spoken and actions taken by the Trump campaign in a variety of other states in their efforts to cast doubt on the controversial 2020 presidential election.

>The indictment charges several defendants with crimes merely for making statements that argued the 2020 election was stolen. It claims that actions such as holding public hearings in Pennsylvania amounted to acts in furtherance of an illegal conspiracy.

>Other “acts” that are referred to as furthering the conspiracy include tweets by then-President Trump encouraging people to watch public hearings in which allegations of voting irregularities were being made by Trump’s lawyers and witnesses.

Have any amount of power can actually make it so that you can now be held legally responsible for, uhhh... challenging an election.

This is basically right - we cannot really mandate all these extra restrooms, and it seems just as weird to have this crossdresser walk into the boy's locker room.

There should perhaps just be an understanding that these sorts of people shouldn't be working with kids and probably should, when they have to, use the men's restroom, even if they are dressed as women, simply because there is not such a threat to men of being sexually assaulted.

Lol... I'm honestly surprised by using the dog not pdf...

And it is also honestly surprising to some degree they DID tell her to not pimp her feed with rainbow gear.

What are your guyes first impressions here?

Seems like a decent fallback to lemmy-based EH so far. I think feature-wise, the lemmy instance has a lot nicer experience right now but I see the potential here.

### Things I thought were kinda neat:

* obviously the whole decentralization / blocking concepts here are great

* liked how the subs allow multiple communities to use the same name since they are actually based on id. Like on Reddit, there is r/memes but then some people didn't like the karma requirements and wanted a separate meme sub so r/meme was created. IIUC, here, they could both be n/memes but they'd just have a different underlying id. Yeah, I know maybe different more unique names are probably better 98% of the time but I thought it was cool that you could still do it if you wanted to and it's basically like "Jim's memes" and "Bob's memes" behind the scenes.

---

### Things Im missing or haven't figured out yet:

* ability to upvote individual comments under a post

* thought I saw something about not being able to delete posts. It appeared to work when I hit delete button though. Does this mean if someone did something monumentally stupid, let's say had personal info copied on clipboard and wasn't paying attention and posted it... Does that mean someone (not site admins but like another user) accessing nostr at a lower level like with cli tools or something would be able to see that? Haven't done anything like that yet but still want to understand if it's a risk.

### Other

Some things I am finding slightly annoying / see a good idea for a feature request/PR (assuming I ever get around to studying and playing with the codebase):

* in admin stuff, if you create a community here, it seems that you need to manually approve each and every post which is tedious as fuck. In Reddit, Kenny, kbin, and most other social sites I have used, there are sometimes pre-publish mod bots and such but manual moderation is more of a post-publishing task and doesn't really gatekeep content or make a huge burden on moderators. Not that I have tons of mod experience or anything; I don't. Current experience just seems like a weird and onerous way of doing things though.

* lack of url for certain pages like the list of all/subscribed communities, certain user settings pages, etc. Probably just a personal preference... I'm not a big fan of fly-outs and modals and that type of design aesthetic. Also like being able to bookmark or send links to people without having to repeat or explain extra steps though.

* Some places seem to only allow npub which is fine. But send like being able to search by display name might be good too. Example: i created a dankmemes sub here cuz I wasn't sure what "common sense" in the memes community meant to the guy that owned it and didn't want to spam the shit out of his sub since it didn't seem to have stuff similar to what I usually post. Tried adding more admins and had to keep going back to my following tab and copy/paste npubs. Would have been cool if I could just type display name and have people I'm associated with, like following/followers, appear. Not a biggie, but maybe an idea for down the road.

I did find a github repo that appears to be for the web ui:

https://github.com/lovvtide/satellite-web

I am thinking on holding off and letting things stabilize rather than bugging devs with feature requests/suggestions at too early of a stage. What are your thoughts?

I just discovered this part of Nostr...

I kept just looking at everything as a twitter feed in Iris and spent the week away from you guys, wandering in the wilderness like I am Moses or something.

I think that this specific community link as satellite.earth/n/explodingheads [and all of the other links - I cannot seem to figure out how this would work on Iris.to] should be what is advertised over at EH so everyone knows that we are just not *showing up in Nostr and posting to our own feeds* and following each other.

Because that is basically what I thought was going on.

Maybe I am just silly.

Yes, that is correct. My interpretation would be that the one thing that Christianity is more than it is Libertarian is pacfiistic - a religion of turning the other cheek.

So I would go so far as to suggest the reason that there is no prioritization on rebelling against masters is a view that it is wrong to employ violence.

It is also worth noting that St. Paul literally threatens masters to treat their slaves rightly because they have their own master in heaven, meaning, they will be judged by how they treat their slaves, and based on Christian morality, this means zero unfair exploitation...

Hence why the more Christianity took root, the more slavery was abolished, with some shameful exceptions... But hypocrisy is to be expected from humans, isn't it?

The name Secondus goes pretty hard.

I sometimes decide to open up every single hyperlinked name in a Wiki article to just read the biographical details of them and briefly try to imagine them, in their context, and admiring their legacy.

>#Brazil's Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that homophobic slurs are now punishable by prison, in a decision applauded by rights activists in a country with rampant violence against the LGBTQ+ community.

...

>The court had ruled in 2019 that homophobia was a crime, just like racism.

What can you even make of this kind of nonsense..?

They suffered under a military dictatorship for 26 years and became a re-emerging, problem riddled "democracy," based on free speech and the marketplace of ideas, and the best they can give us is an economy that continues to struggle and a judicial system that will put you in jail for having already very unpopular ideas... and where these ideas may be popular at all, they have become illegal to manufacture the people to be a reflection of what the government wants of them ideologically.

It is its own form of totalitarianism...

Can we even call it "soft" totalitarianism anymore? Is it "soft" totalitarianism when you get put into a stinking third world jail cell for calling someone a slang term for a homosexual?

If you are going to illegalize ideologies, which I never recommend, why illegalize the most sensible and traditional ones..? If you're going to be totalitarian, at least have values that are laudable.

Brazil needs #Bolsonaro, that's for sure.

#Milei's proposal to switch #Argentina's national currency to the dollar is not radical in the least - it is an increasing reality as much of the national economy now operates in dollars, particularly wherever large sums of money are concerned:

In industries such as technology and finance, skilled workers are demanding salaries be paid in dollars. Companies, including MercadoLibre, Argentina’s largest tech company, increasingly are acquiescing. Most landlords in Buenos Aires now only accept payments in dollars. Ditto for Airbnb rentals. And the list goes on and on: musical instruments, divorce lawyers, imported leather — you want it, you cough up the greenbacks.

The use of the dollar, while hardly new here, is exploding across the country today as inflation soars above 100 percent and destroys the value of the pesos people lug around in their wallets and stick into their checking accounts.

Yet, there were also many rulers that presided over Israel that did what was wicked before God...

It is specific leaders who are referred to as God's anointed because they are righteous men loved by God, and through them God's grace was visited upon people. Yes, that is a part of God's will... But what about them is tyrannical?

For instance, in 2 Samuel 16, we see King David tolerating a man cursing him in public. Likewise, St. Gamliel said the same thing to the other Pharisees when he was the Sanhedrin:

"Therefore, in the present case, I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourself fighting against God." (Acts 5:38, 39)

So we see there is some precedent of both rulers and influential Bible figures and early Christians preferring liberty, and advising it, as part of divine providence.

A surprisingly Libertarian passage I came across:

"Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he hath made crooked?" (Ecclesiastes 7:13)

It's really a cool to let things go. We cannot straighten out others - even if we succeed through coercive measures or cultural capture, we've only succeeded in putting their inner wickedness into a new context.

We've just put the wolf into sheep's clothes when we capture the culture; we just make ourselves totalitarians and lose all credibility by jailing moral perverts to increase worldly power in a never-ending game of whack-a-mole in imposing our personal spiritual values.

Let everything go, and approach people with personal humility, showing them the truth, when the time is right. We are not here to save society - it is crooked, and we cannot make it straight.

If I'm ever in #australia I will eat the biggest, meanest stingray I can for Steve Irwin.

Had no idea that the Bushwhackers appeared in the 1998 Insane Clown Posse video "How Many Times."

Based.

If it is my first time eating a stingray, since I am not yet acquainted with it, should I be more formal and refer to it as a stingraymond?

I love it whenI am not sure what the correct spelling for an English word is (two Ts or no? Two Ls or no?) and Bing is like "My man you just confused because the British spell it with two T's" and I can give a Gigachad smile at the screen, my ego fully in tact...
