I was recently introduced to eating what the Russians call salo (сало) which is salt-cured pork fat. The block that I'm eating is also smoked. It's intended to be eaten without being cooked. Absolutely delicious. I purchased it at a farmers market in Batumi, Georgia. Here's a photo of some slices from the block.

I took a beginner fly fishing course led by a fly fishing club near me. A couple hours of practice with a mentor watching, I was able to cast and catch fish on my first trip to the trout streams of northern Michigan. Not only did it allow me to cast quickly, I understood which gear to purchase. Perhaps you can find something similar near you.
