#nostr is going to win. I visited #zapddit on kiwi browser for Android, Alby popped up for me to Input my password, after that, clicked on a post to view on #snort and was already logged in to snort

Opened #highlighter to update a list as was logged in as well. It is insane how interoperable everything is.

Seams even software like Obtanium isn't immune to being removed from github. Though it's better than the app stores restrictions.

Having specialized relays to handle different events might help with this

People who respond with “make a PWA instead”, you are missing the point.

The point is not that we can’t circumvent this. We can stop doing things on iOS or simply not have zaps on posts.

The point is that every single app can no longer add zaps to posts. This is a big blow for the zap economy model. It means no other apps can explore what it would mean to support work with instant p2p payments. This is a blow to the future of lightning payments, marketplaces, creator economy.

There are 1.5 BILLION active iPhone users. To say, fuck Apple, let’s just do X instead is to say who cares about 19% of the world’s population.. we don’t need them in the bitcoin micropayments economy.

This demands a big response. I am not sure we are making it a big enough deal. There must be A LOT more noise happening right now.

Bitcoiners who do not understand this need to wake the fuck up.

I think a middle ground to this debacle could work like this.

Since ios supports in app browsers, a version of damus that works in the browser and supports zaps can be triggered from an action on the main ios damus app. Sure the ux as a result isn't the greatest, but it leverages the web and won't be blocked by apple. Then parts of the app could trigger the web functionality.

Don't know if this would fly though but I think damus having a web presence would help in not completely kneecapping the ios #nostr users.

Orange pilled my mom yesterday (2nd attempt). I was going to go with Swan because it's a familiar custodial-type solution, but the KYC was just too much. We got through the license scanning stuff, but they wanted proof of address, which was just too big a chore for it to ever actually happen.

I thought briefly about using Sparrow on her computer since she's not super comfortable with her smart phone, but decided that was a bad idea given that she uses Windows and sometimes clicks malicious links.

So I pivoted to Phoenix Wallet, but my mom wasn't signed in to Play Store. So I downloaded F-Droid so I could download Aurora Store and get Phoenix anonymously. Oh, but Aurora's anonymous account was rate limited so I had to sign in with my own Google account anyway.

What a painful experience! The KYC is expected, but why are there no good wallets on F-Droid?

One Phoenix was on her phone though, she wrote me a check for $200 and the sats arrived in under a second. We put her seed words on a piece of paper, and she's good to go! 🎉

Since most Bitcoin and lightning wallets are open source, you could use obtanium and link the github repository to get the apk and install without having to use any store.

The scroll position on #amethyst seems broken for a while now. Reading a post and returning back to the timeline scrolls all the way to the most recent post.
