Orange pilled my mom yesterday (2nd attempt). I was going to go with Swan because it's a familiar custodial-type solution, but the KYC was just too much. We got through the license scanning stuff, but they wanted proof of address, which was just too big a chore for it to ever actually happen.

I thought briefly about using Sparrow on her computer since she's not super comfortable with her smart phone, but decided that was a bad idea given that she uses Windows and sometimes clicks malicious links.

So I pivoted to Phoenix Wallet, but my mom wasn't signed in to Play Store. So I downloaded F-Droid so I could download Aurora Store and get Phoenix anonymously. Oh, but Aurora's anonymous account was rate limited so I had to sign in with my own Google account anyway.

What a painful experience! The KYC is expected, but why are there no good wallets on F-Droid?

One Phoenix was on her phone though, she wrote me a check for $200 and the sats arrived in under a second. We put her seed words on a piece of paper, and she's good to go! 🎉

Crazy man Bitcoin you gotta be tech savvy Satoshi definitely knew that.

Anywhere people can go to buy without KYC?

I like Robosats

You could try hodlhodl or Bisq

I have been using Bisq, Peach Bitcoin and Robosats.

The most developed is obviously Bisq and I like it very much. If you want to buy or sell on-chain BTC using SEPA, Zelle, Tranferwise, Revolut , Bisq is the place to go.

Robosats is good too because it supports Lightning. Neither Bisq or Peach have the Lightning support.

Peach Bitcoin has recently came to the P2P arena. It's app-based (android / ios), easier to handle than Bisq (which runs on a PC). I had a couple of trades using Peach, everything was OK.

To summarize:

If you need the most developed P2P -> Bisq

If you want the easiest app-based way -> Peach Bitcoin

If you want Lightning support -> Robosats

Good job!!

Since most Bitcoin and lightning wallets are open source, you could use obtanium and link the github repository to get the apk and install without having to use any store.

Good tip for next time

apkmirror.com is an option too.

Cash App genuinely seems to be the easiest on-ramp. Only need KYC when you want to withdraw the BTC. And now they let you withdraw using lightning too.
