Due to the recent seizure of funds by Canadian authorities from CEX without KYC TradeOgre, many people consider DEXs to be untouchable: non-custodial, no KYC, supposedly beyond confiscation. In theory, it’s a fortress. In practice, regulators have already shown they can strike these systems.

The first warning shot came in 2022 with Blender .io, a mixer accused of laundering funds for the Lazarus Group. OFAC sanctioned it, signaling that the code itself could be treated as complicit.

Later that year, Tornado Cash was targeted. The U.S. Treasury accused it of enabling billions in laundering. The smart contract continued to run, but the developers were arrested and the frontends were taken down.

The playbook was clear: if the funds in the contract can’t be seized, regulators pressure the human layer—builders, interfaces, and visible liquidity.

In 2024, a U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that an immutable contract is not “property” subject to sanctions. This created the first major crack in the government’s strategy.

By March 2025, OFAC had to lift its sanctions on Tornado Cash. Not voluntarily, but because the courts forced its hand. A rare legal win for decentralization.

Still, the crackdown didn’t stop there. In 2024 and 2025, Samourai Wallet founders were arrested in the U.S., charged with money laundering conspiracy and operating an unlicensed money services business.

Samourai wasn’t a DEX, but its privacy tools (Whirlpool, Ricochet) made it a target. The case showed that even non-custodial wallets focused on anonymity aren’t immune from prosecution.

The line has shifted: it’s no longer only about custody of funds. If you build tools that give users strong privacy, you can end up in prosecutors’ crosshairs.

The takeaway: DEXs make direct confiscation harder, but they’re not untouchable. The battleground is moving toward developers, frontends, and access layers. The clash between immutable code and mutable law is just beginning.

as in: i havent done much reading, i dont have much lived experience here, im not familiar with the mechanics & philosophies of justification

so as an absolute n00b, im wondering aloud, does justifying one out of pocket thing tend to lead to many inevitable downstream justifications? like once the ball is rolling it is typically an avalanche? or is it more random than that? like someone is more likely to justify this one-off thing out of a sense of allegiance or that one thing over there in memory to a family member or just this one thing out of revenge? like what academic field looks at choicemaking over time?

It’s super simple, but it took the evil of the past 5 years to show me the light.

The key is The Truth.

Look at Mohammed, pederast warlord that married a child. Their religion is based on martyrdom and conversion by the sword. There’s no truth in them, only violence and rape.

Look at the jews, they worship moloch. Their commandments are only for them, and even they don’t follow them internally. YOU and everyone around them are cattle to be slaughtered, which is why they celebrate genocide. Human sacrifices to their demon lord.

Look at other religions, Buddhism for example. It’s seems good, but it’s not enough. It’s malleable, and can be easily swayed because it’s not based in truth.

Whether or not you “believe in god,” I imagine you believe in an objective truth. That is the key. Christ is “the way, the truth, the life.” They’re one and the same. When you speak the truth, even in the face of death, or ridicule, or ostracization, you speak the word of the one true god.

Every other religion feeds the ego, Christianity is the only religion that feeds the truth at all costs.

You’re conflating some things that are important to distinguish between. I (and many others) run nodes not to mine but to interact with the protocol in the designed (and intended) P2P way.

Without any “middleman” or agent.

This is a big part of what makes Bitcoin Bitcoin.

I go through my freakout moments from time to time as well, but in the end, if this network is as fragile (to bad actors) as you are saying, then it was worth nothing to begin with.

Sit with that. If it bothers you, sell your bitcoin and move on. Bitcoin doesn’t care.
