Lexi & Chris in a truck camper

Chris: "Wow, the truck is so dirty.”

Lexi: "How did it get this dirty?"

*Pause to tally up all the dirt roads we have driven since last washing the truck**

Both: "Oh, right..."

Some adventures are better shared.

We just discovered what the local squirrels have known all along: there are some quality pecans growing on these trees.

So, now it’s every mammal for themselves while any nuts remain.

Just a reminder to all my outdoorsy friends: state parks are delightful and staffed right now! That means bathrooms that get refreshed and trash bins that get emptied.

If you must visit a federal space, pack out what you pack in and have contingencies when nature calls.

Good morning!

To snack or not to snack?

Well, it’s been almost three weeks since my first 100 miler was canceled mid-race. I think I’m ready to start looking for some fall race to to cap off this years training.

Maybe a 50 miler or a 50k? I just don’t want to end the season on a sour note.

Good night, friends.

The mountains are calling…

It's been a minute!

We've been overwhelmed training for yet another race (our biggest yet!) The outcome was one crazy surprise.

More details to come!

Interaction while #trailrunning:

Child: Is that a weighted vest?

Me: Better! It holds my drinks and snacks!

Here are a couple of young chipmunks because they are adorable.

That is all.

Hey body?

…Hey body?

You know how we just ran 50 miles overnight? Do you think we could at least try to get a full night’s sleep?

No?

Oh well…

Well, it's sweltering hot outside, so it's time for another race, right?

This Saturday, we are participating in the Night Howler 50: a 50-mile run through the night.

It will get dark.

We may become delirious.

And, despite the predicted heat, there may also be thunderstorms.

Wish us luck!

Is your garden full of zucchini?

May I suggest zucchini brownies?

Every year brings a new adventure.

Sometimes it's wild, sometimes it's weird, and sometimes... it's unexpectedly adorable.

One fall, the road took a surprising turn when we stumbled upon a couple of dehydrated, lethargic baby squirrels—so desperate they’d climbed out of their nest and lay sprawled in the open. We waited for their mother, but hours passed, and the brutal truth set in: they’d been alone too long. At that point, a hawk was more likely to show up than help.

Or, more to the point, WE were the help.

So we stepped in.

For a few chaotic, heart-melting months, we became squirrel foster parents—feeding, cleaning, and watching these little fuzzballs regain strength and personality. Even after we released them, we stuck around, helping them adjust to life in the wild. Eventually, like all things in our travels, it was time to move on.

But I still think about those little guys. And I’ll never see a squirrel play without smiling.

At least I have the pictures.

Hookups & hot showers: the height of luxury!

It's #hiking season!

And it couldn't come soon enough. After a crazy intense 41.2 miles racing at Strolling Jim, my left foot is protesting. So, I'm backing off the running but not the trails.

It's time to get out and hike (along with some more DIY camper renovation). So get ready for a lot of dust as we share trail views and renovation shots this season.

Happy Mothers Day!

Laz signed our bibs the day before the race, leaving Chris a prophetic message “she will beat you anyway!”

In the course of running over 40 miles, I broke my personal record for 50k, marathon, and even half marathon.

And, yes, after running the first half together, we had to split and I did beat Chris.
