A belated Happy New Year nostr! I’m starting off the year with a heat punk experiment, attempting a DIY positive input ventilation system with an S9 for heating.
If you haven’t heard of PIV systems before, it’s basically a fan blowing air from the loft into the house creating positive pressure. In theory this helps reduce damp issues in old houses by reversing drafts and reducing humidity.
The water heating project with the S19 is on the back burner while I find a heating engineer
Bread baked, steak sandwich on the menu tonight!

Beer o’clock

Lazy bastards! Although this one is a kitten so puts in a few hours of mischief too!
Another hard day of napping completed ✅

Been thinking about making a miner positive input ventilation system. My house is an old Welsh farmhouse which costs a fortune to heat and is still damp and cold. Anybody had any experience with PIVs? Do they actually work or just add to your heating/leccy bill?
Trying out some plastering today. Sticking the boards to the wall was the easy bit, skimming it tomorrow is gonna be interesting!

Temperature sensor done. It’s not pretty but it works not bad for about £20.
Onward

The radiator works now though so success! Still need a plumber though, don’t think a YouTube tutorial will teach me to service the boiler
YouTube how to videos never show you the bit where you undo the radiator valve and dirty water pisses up the wall. Managed to get the valve changed tho, hopefully that fixes the cold rad.
Plumber was supposed to turn up today but in the Socialist Republic of Britain nothing works as it should.
The plan is to convert an s19 to water cooling and run it through a buffer tank heat exchanger coil which will be connected to the central heating/hot water.
Had solar pv fitted and because of our system they couldn’t add a switch to dump excess into the hot water tank.
So the miner will (hopefully!!) heat the buffer tank to add some kWs to the system and save on the gas bill whilst earning sats. We also have a cheap night rate so hoping that will be profitable but it’s slim margins.
Friday night project: building a esp32 temperature sensor.
Got one working, now to add about 9 more…

It can be awkward getting working the timing around life, I do batches of 4 loaves and freeze 3. Keeps me going for a couple of weeks.
It’s amazing how lucky we are in the UK, you can pay £15k for solar pv and a battery and you’ll be privileged enough to pay the same for electricity as you did all those years ago in 2021
She loves to sleep next to the hoover, not so keen on it on the rare occasion it’s used tho

Is nostr dead now?
My cat loves bringing home gifts, when she had kittens she went crazy with it bringing multiple dead animals a day into the house. So I splashed out on a smart cat flap that locks her out! #catstr

gm, has anybody bought anything from Zeus Mining (zeusbtc.com)? I need to get an S19 hydro conversion kit for my heating system project #asknostr #heatpunks
And I finished my guitar, surprisingly it’s actually in tune and plays pretty well! (The neck is off the shelf)
