'meaning'...it will resort to actions that will fill that 'hole. The brain struggles to differentiate between long and short term sources that allow our bodies to create feel good chemicals.
It only recognizes the Chemical, and pushes the being to pursue more of it not knowing the difference between beneficial and detrimental actions to get it.

However you interpret it, the being cannot deny there is infinite Truth & wisdom in attempting to understand the timeless nature of Gods insights.
