A lot of people seem to see voting for trump as „the lesser of two evils“, wondering what else they can do to protect their bitcoin from regulatory overreach.

But the US isnt „the greatest country in the world“ because of its presidents - if anything, it is *in spite* of them.

The US government consists of more than the presidency. It has a fairly well working judiciary in place, which exists to help the people hold the government accountable and ensure that no laws will be passed infringing on your rights (doesnt always work but often does).

From a legal perspective, the US is a great place for bitcoin due to its laws around free speech and enterprise, which enshrines the use and ownership of bitcoin not just as property, but as a tool for communication.

The problem ergo isnt the politicians. The problem is your own complete political apathy when it comes to anything other than elections.

If you want to protect your bitcoin, stop spending millions of dollars and thousands of hours supporting political candidates who will say anything to get your votes only to drop you like a hot potato once elected. Instead, use that time and money to boycott and organize - its what the system was designed for.

There are enough grounds to sue the US government, private citizens, companies and institutions if the right to own, use or interact with bitcoin was to be infringed, and its how the majority of civil liberties were established.

Ending racial segregation in schools didnt happen by presidential decree - it happend through Brown vs. Board of Education. The right to an attorney: Gideon v Wrainwright. Interracial marriage: Loving v Virginia. Burning of the US flag as speech: Texas v Johnson. Right to abortion (though now overturned): Roe v Wade. Same sex marriage: Obergefell v Hodges. Porn on the internet: ACLU v Reno.

You have rights, and you need to stop thinking that you are powerless without some babbling politician to enforce them. Spend the time and money on grassroots organizing, which is much more in the spirit of bitcoin anway. Politicians hate this trick.

The girl I am currently talking to left a tyrannical country to be in this part of the world, so I don't have to explain the importance of guns, or free speech, or why "experts" & govt officials should be questioned. And in spite of having a phd in computer science she understands the differences between men & women, & she thinks liberals are basically just weak & cowardly people. It's really nice.

I really wasn't planning to vote, I haven't voted in any presidential election since Ron Paul because I just don't like any of the human garbage involved. But the banana republic like results of the clown trial has made up my mind. I'm voting for orange man. I don't think it's going to accomplish much one way or the other, but this whole mess is beyond ridiculous. I want the system to self destruct & it looks like they'll tear it all down to keep him from winning. Fuck it, I want to see the show.

I'm sure that's true. I just think he maybe should be holding a few more ideas back and workshoping them for a private audience.

For instance, using the English language as an example for his vision of how a brilliant useful protocol should change, very slowly over time only with careful consideration. Yet English changes in a very anarchic way, sporadically, regionally, in spurts, and sometimes quite drastically. There is no one consensus version of English. And "official" changes within dictionaries and textbooks are recognized only after a certain level of common usage has been adopted in a region, not because anyone has carefully considered each change and come to consensus that it is good for the protocol and protects the rights of all the current English users.

No doubt Saylor is smart and can be interesting to listen to but he has some sketchy takes. His analogies have always been poetic but it seems they are getting less so and more absurd.

He pretends he is against ossification but can't give a single example of something that might be worth considering upgrading. He didn't even agree that segwit should have been implemented, while saying everything else should be moved to layer 2 and 3, without mentioning that lightning, the only truly successful layer 2 so far, wouldn't have been possible without it. Does he really not understand this or is he just being deceptive? Either way not a good look.

I don't. I think they're more entering the earlier "and then they fight you" phase.

Or more specifically, they are happy to join in on the price exposure side (i.e. ETFs), but they are fighting against privacy (especially) and self-custody (to some extent). The struggle for financial privacy, custody, and overall self-autonomy is just heating up.

The gradual shift of critics from "bitcoin is a useless speculative asset with no intrinsic value" to "bitcoin is so powerful that direct usage of it must be curtailed" can be dangerous.

I saw a TikTok about Nostr like five minutes ago and decided to make an account. The premise is interesting, curious to see if I stick around or if it’s just another account I make and never log back into.

I have no idea what kind of content I’ll put out or if I’ll post at all. I’m just getting a feel for everything.
