Changing the block size has absolutely nothing to do with block time.

Smaller blocks doesn’t mean faster blocks times.

Bigger blocks doesn’t mean slower block times.

Right that's difficulty

Of course not. There are always tradeoffs. Small blocks = more blocks = more participation = greater decentralization. Larger blocks may also slow down settlement as generally smaller blocks means more frequent blocks.

I was reading that ordinal degens are trying to move their tokens to taproot assets. So if that shitcoin casino takes off lightning could break.

I am pretty sure Udis goal with Taproot wizards is to break lightning.

Bigger blocks will bring fees down.

Bigger blocks will let in more transactions to make up for the small fees.

Miners still get paid, we still get to make cheap transactions.

That wouldn't scale either. It would be a short term bandaid and you'd need to completely tip the apple cart to implement.

But yes if L1 fees become too expensive for plebs to open channels. LN is broken scaling model.

I agree that Lightning is not the answer. And I presented a question to asknostr earlier this week asking what we do when fees get substantially higher for substantially longer, and essentially got a shrug in return.

We're not ready, and this next bull market we're really going to feel it.

I had the same problem at work yesterday. Maybe our companies use the same web filtering? I find that only a few relays respond while at work.

lightning is great and all, dont get me wrong, but aside from zapping people on nostr, i still do most of my transactions on chain.

most of those transactions are done during in-person visits in my situation.

for everything else there is lightning or something else.

in a way its all bitcoin imo.

What are you doing that you need on chain transactions to be so fast?

you could always use something temporary like Phoenix wallet as well in order not to have to manage channels but still have self custody.

The sky is the limit, when there is a will there is a way.

Yes Lightning is Bitcoin - but to your own point, "lightning and LN Node operators needs to evolve to handle this more appropriately." That's certainly more constructive to me than a shrug. I understand that these problems get addressed but I'm interested in the "how."

And again, it's not about day-to-day fee rates. It's about the big pumps, the potential for them to become bigger and longer, and how they get handled when it happens.

I'm talking about like in May when fees went over 30 sat/vB, or 2017 when it went over 50, or 2021 over 60.

I don't imagine we've seen the top, and in a proper bull market these scenarios could extend longer. It doesn't seem like a done deal imo.
