I think I've realized a potential error in a fundamental way I think about relationships.

If I have a problem with something my wife is doing, or some way she acts or doesn't act or whatever (it could be anything, really), I think I have a tendency to approach it like: "Why would someone do that?" "Why wouldn't she see that?" "Everyone does it this way." "She doesn't see what everyone else is doing." yadda yadda essentially ascribing what I think of as what she SHOULD or SHOULDN'T be doing as the CORRECT thing that applies universally to the world.

In reality, I should be saying that this isn't something that's standard, that people in general should or shouldn't do, that everyone else does or doesn't realize. This is just a thing that I need from MY partner for ME. She is who she is, and I am who I am, and the rest of the world isn't involved in what should or shouldn't be happening. It's not relevant. I need to stop comparing.

These are MY hangups.
