Ayer fue un día memorable. Tuvo lugar la Lectura y Defensa de mi Tesis Doctoral (“Bitcoin como dinero fuerte: Una interpretación de Bitcoin a la luz de la Escuela Austriaca de Economía”) ante el Tribunal formado por los doctores Huerta de Soto, Miguel Anxo Bastos y Estrella Trincado. Todo ello en presencia de numerosos bitcoiners que acudieron al Acto.

CRÓNICA DE UNA DEFENSA DE TESIS DOCTORAL

Hoy he tenido la inmensa fortuna y honor de asistir a la defensa de la tesis doctoral por parte del ya Doctor en economía @Joel_Serrano_M_ que ha tenido lugar en la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos y cuyo tribunal estaba constituido por los ilustres economistas don Miguel Anxo Bastos y don Jesús Huerta de Soto, máximos divulgadores de la Escuela Austríaca de economía y que han evaluado el denso y profundo trabajo titulado “Bitcoin como dinero fuerte: Una interpretación de Bitcoin a la luz de la Escuela Austríaca de Economía”, que ha recibido un merecido sobresaliente y cuya calificación honorífica “Cum Laude” se va a tomar en consideración próximamente.

Y no es para menos porque el exhaustivo análisis comparativo ha quedado tan sólidamente establecido en la tesis que solo han cabido elogios por parte del tribunal y los directores. La correlación entre Bitcoin como moneda fuerte con los ideales de la escuela austríaca resultan tan irrefutables que las objeciones vertidas por el tribunal han sido puramente formales y por decoro y, por tanto, sustancialmente inocuas.

Algunas, casi sorprendentemente inocentes como la crítica que JHS ha hecho con su habitual vehemencia a la intangibilidad de Bitcoin en comparación con el oro. Sorprendente en un católico. Pero congruente con su complacencia en el "sonido" que produce su moneda de oro y en el que se deleita.

He tenido la inmensa suerte de poder intercambiar más tarde algunas palabras con el ínclito y admirado profesor y he osado señalarle que Bitcoin es matemáticas, ergo, inmaterial, incorruptible y eterno. Una insolencia por parte de un advenedizo servidor, pero una verdad como un templo.

Bastos también ha hecho objeciones y preguntas que, aunque legítimas, delatan cierto desconocimiento (comprensible) de Bitcoin. Por ejemplo al plantear la posibilidad de que surjan otros “bitcoin” con otras cualidades…También he tenido la ocasión y osadía, en privado, de recordarle que no se puede inventar otra rueda que sea mejor que la rueda.

Para mi estupefacción JHS ha vaticinado la imposibilidad de que Bitcoin llegue a ser un medio de intercambio comúnmente aceptado alegando que la desaparición del Estado es condición necesaria para la adopción masiva de Bitcoin. De nuevo (y con una desvergüenza que me avergüenza) me he permitido sugerirle que invirtiese el orden de los factores de su ecuación para alterar el producto: “Bitcoin es la condición necesaria para la desaparición del Estado” y por tanto, la adopción masiva de Bitcoin y la desaparición del Estado son fenómenos que han de retro-alimentarse paulatinamente de forma inversamente proporcional.

Pero estamos hablando de dos “OG Austríacos” que son como dos “viejos punkies” a los que uno trata de hacer ver las bonanzas del Rock progresivo, el A.O.R. o el “Grunge”. Es prácticamente una causa perdida, pero torres más altas han caído.

The debate that Willy Woo has reignited about quantum computing and taproot is interesting.

While I believe that it will take many years and decades to see quantum computing as we imagine it, I do believe that taproot was a design flaw in every respect.

As I have mentioned many times, there is widespread suspicion that taproot was approved due to pressure from Core members who had stakes in mining pools.

But the truly amusing aspect is that taproot addresses are less secure than segwit addresses, significantly less secure, given that taproot addresses permanently display the public key.

A state attacker, for example, could collect Taproot addresses (and other vulnerable ones such as P2PK and Bare multisig/scripts with direct pubkeys) and decrypt their private key.

In segwit addresses (also P2PKH and P2SH/P2WSH), this is not possible, since the public key is not exposed; it is only possible at the moment of spending, which is when the public key is exposed, i.e., while it is in the mempool waiting to be confirmed.

This reduces the window to minutes and greatly reduces exposure to attack.

The example to follow is that of Signal and SimpleX, which improve their encryption algorithms with every step they take and prepare for quantum computing well in advance.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin is more concerned with allowing spam and shitty protocols like Citrea.

This has less and less of a future.
