Shh… that kind of thinking for yourself (Ie: follow the Fiat) will get you on a three letter agency’s list! :)
I buy $500 gift cards quite often on Bitrefill. No issues whatsoever. I tried to get a plane ticket recently using a credit card that I’ve had for work for many years with plenty of available credit and it was declined because the destination was flagged as out of the normal.
What are you selling for #bitcoin?
Doesn’t seem to be a #bitcoinmarketplace or #bitcoinclassifieds yet on #Nostr.
Happy to support legitimate small bitcoin friendly businesses.
She should reach out to the #bitcoin CEO right away.
I would respect an idiot’s right to their own opinion, however idiotic, as long as it doesn’t harm me or others. Then I’d go outside on a hike and later, DCA like I always do.
#bitcoin doesn’t need cheerleaders or evangelists. It is here, it works great as is, and whether other people choose to use it or not makes no difference to me.
That said, if people would like to discuss the merits of it, or possible use cases I haven’t thought of myself, then I’m all ears.
As someone who was born dirt poor, I can say the process was not that complicated.
I started working at a young age, got myself educated, built a career that paid well and was portable, avoided materialism, chose a like minded spouse, chose rural over urban living, sought self reliance wherever possible, and learned to seek out and correct the things I was wrong about. In this way, #Bitcoin was sort of inevitable for me.
This is not about patting myself on the back though for being “special”. Quite the opposite. The truth is that I was very lucky to be born healthy, not get (very) sick yet, and grow up in a place where war and famine was not the norm and my choices above were in fact possible. That said, I see many many many other people who could live like me if they so desired but instead keep making the same mistakes over and over and over again. Or they have fallen for one or more of the many traps set out for us by the legacy financial system. For that though, you’ll have to check out some of my other posts.
There are many and the list grows daily.
I get by mostly with Bitrefill though.
I grow/raise a lot of my own food. I have a well and use mostly solar/renewable power.
And I have built a fairly large network of like minded people who I can trade #Bitcoin directly with for other goods/services.
Hahaha. I can function quite well without a car but that’s beside the point.
The ultimate conclusion of your line of questioning would be “if you were in a life or death situation that could only be solved with Fiat, would you sell your Bitcoin for fiat then?”
Even if it were possible to create those conditions (which it really isn’t anymore - I can buy most anything I need with Bitcoin now), the answer is still no. I am a admittedly a zealot who believes I am at war. And yes, I am willing to die for my beliefs. After all, people have gone to war and died for millennia now and for much much stupider reasons that never stood to benefit them directly at all.
I have no debt though, live a very happy life many multiples below my income means, am approximately 90% self-sufficient anyhow, and have no children to worry about.
With a weapon of peaceful protest like #bitcoin, I like my odds against my enemy.
So how do you buy things that can only be bought with fiat atm? Don’t you need to sell btc for that?
If I need something that I can only get from a vendor that doesn’t accept bitcoin (like utilities), I just pay with fiat that I earn.
I know how to budget.
My #bitcoin stays bitcoin, unless I can spend it directly which I am happy/able to do more and more.
Bitcoin works great as it is.
It does not need to “boom”.
Buy it for the freedom it provides you.
Buy it to have your voice counted in opposition to a failed and corrupt financial and political system.
If you’re only looking for more fiat wealth, you’re a fool and deserve it when you inevitably get shaken out by price volatility.
Only keep in Fiat what you are willing to lose slowly over time.
I convert any and all Fiat I have remaining after expenses (that I can’t pay directly with #Bitcoin for) into bitcoin. I do this via a daily DCA regardless of Fiat price.
I do not want Fiat. I do not want to support a corrupt and failed system. By exiting this system, I have achieved my desired ROI.
I don’t buy MSTR. I don’t buy RIOT. I don’t put Fiat away in a 401k. I don’t do ETFs. I don’t buy futures. I don’t buy shitcoins.
I buy bitcoin, and I move it to cold storage. When I need something, I either by it with Bitcoin directly, or use fiat.
I never, ever, sell bitcoin for fiat. And I never will.
If you have any significant amount, I would move to a different device as ledger has admitted that their devices have the ability to transmit private keys.
While this is not a problem only with ledger, the fact that they are closed source is a major red flag.
When you switch, do so carefully and don’t be in a hurry.
Now that’s a worthy pursuit right there. :)
The simple truth is that most people don’t/can’t think critically. They have no interest in being wrong about anything. Dissonance is an unfamiliar and scary state for them that they try to avoid at all costs.
We are evolutionarily predisposed not to think for ourselves.
And there is an argument to be made that ignorance truly may be better.
That said, I too am immensely grateful on a daily basis for being #childfree.
I can’t imagine the mental gymnastics over the course of a lifetime that would be needed to not feel constant guilt over bringing something that you are genetically programmed to love like no other, into this cesspool of existence. Sure, there is some good, but there is also a lot of bad that you are powerless to protect them from. Uvalde anyone?
Even if you are born into the global elite, there is nothing special about any of it. Only suffering and pleasure that never seems to last long enough.
Despite our lofty ambitions for and opinions of ourselves, humans will never be more than a mere blip on the cosmic scale. Just an ever anxious animal who has reproduced beyond what our host planet can sustain.
My personal mission and way through the muck and the mire, is to simply try to make the most of it. When the time comes for my body to fail, as it inevitably will, I will welcome a return to non existence, as much as I welcome a pretty sunrise or a warm cup of tea on a cold day.
Old enough to know a good thing when I see it.
#bitcoin
#nostr
Made it easier to trade garbage Fiat for more #bitcoin.
You’re welcome.
