I'd love to agree with this but can't. They'll consume whatever all the people posted who are autofollowed by every new primal user. This wasn't the case with the early internet. The fact that not even twitter forces autofollows is also kind of telling.
It offers an almost flawless experience, which is why so many are using it. But it's also a very data hungry client and the autofollow feature should not exist.
Pretty much the only viable free option right now, albeit slow.

You can tell it's the beginning of the year and some contracts are about to get renewed. The influencers have to FUD for sponsor money again.
Support the direction of decentralized socials. Are you right, most likely. But being able to zap might become a big game changer. You might get a Nostr profile, because when it catches on, it actually is a great gateway to truly use internet money for socials.
Took both Damus purple for nostr:npub1qvwdl9rp7a5ghrxv57wnml5ehg2whjh708vys6kaxpkgu0z3aclsuy2h4p and primal legend for my personal profile. I do believe this network has sufficient freedom to be used in the proper way. An easy gateway into it through more centralized platforms is exactly how bitcoin works currently.
People use an exchange. They don’t buy a node, a hardware wallet and do a peer to peer transfer. They need a gateway. Primal, Damus etc will be the gateway. And if we don’t meet people where they are, the number of us will simply decline. The amazing technology of bitcoin micropayments needs to be spread far and wide. Supporting platforms that make it accessible easily is key, for now.
The only sane thing to do is to use both until there is a clear winner or one of them stops working, both have their own pros and cons, but I'd rather not limit myself to a single source of information. No idea what Damus Purple and Primal Legend are, tbh, not an Iphone user and still on amethyst, but it sounds like some premium "pay2win" profile boost?

Let me preface this with an "I do love nostr, but"
One of the greatest tricks the Devils ever played was to leave twitter and urge their followers to do the same and join their exclusively built echo chamber. So now they are the top of the bunch influencers here without much competition and if there is competition, they can decide if they even want to let their accounts grow by endorsing or not endorsing their posts. Add primal as the preferred on ramp which can virtually decide about users follower count, and it starts to look like the whole thing might just be centralized around a single source of funding, which is not jack. Many of those top of the line influencers are conveniently on primals autofollow list and board members at the source of funding at the same time.
If you look at really big youtubers, this is usually their modus operandi, get people to follow them into their own custom built echo chamber. Great way to spread their message without risking to be challenged by critical entities.
Am I paranoid, yes.
